Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 09: Horror Series Beginning With The Letter 'I' !!

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Nine' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-) :-D

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published nine days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article every day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet each and every day. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D

For my ninth post in this series I'm going to share some links to a slightly fewer audio "treats" than yesterday, though (once again) they're all from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the unifying "trick" (sic) that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'I' - although some artistic licence has been taken to incorporate a self-contained horror story, as opposed to the serialised fiction that has featured in most of the podcasts from this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'I' of the (horror) alphabet:-

I Am In Eskew: is a podcast series, produced by David Ward, about a man trapped in the horror-filled and impossible city of Eskew, who makes endless recordings of his day-to-day experiences, hoping to reach the outside world. This show routinely contains body horror and other disturbing scenes. Kind of like a "…Night Vale" for the darker mindset. It's not entirely devoid of humour, but that's not the main focus of this horror fiction series. See their website for detailed warnings about each episode! ;-)

In The Dark: is a podcast, produced by American Public Media (APM), which is hosted and narrated by Madeleine Baran, with Samara Freemark at the helm. The series features investigative journalism and in-depth analysis from APM Reports: the investigative reporting and documentary unit of APM. Back in 2016... 'Season One' focused on the abduction of Jacob Wetterling but, for 'Season Two' of the series, reporter Madeleine Baran examines the case of Curtis Flowers: a man who was charged on four counts of murder in a small Mississippi town. In what was perhaps the most shocking crime ever witnessed in downtown Winona, it is said that he walked into a local furniture store on the morning of July 16th 1996 and murdered four employees. Each was shot in the head. Following his arrest, what followed was a two-decade legal odyssey in which Flowers was tried six times for the same crime. Curtis maintained his innocence throughout... winning one appeal after another, only for the prosecutor (seemingly hellbent on having the conviction upheld) to try the case yet again! :-O

Inside The Exorcist: Mark Ramsey’s "Inside..." tells the stories behind some of cinema’s best films, and also produced separate podcast series for Psycho and Jaws (both equally excellent, btw). Each season is a must-listen in its own right, but 2017’s "Inside The Exorcist" is (without a doubt) one of the scariest podcasts you're likely to hear! :-O The impeccable writing, top-notch vocal performances, and - crucially - the sound design by Jeff Schmidt, all come together for a storytelling experience that is emotionally riveting, and (at times) just as terrifying as the William Friedkin movie itself. This is the story of a movie and its makers. It's a tale of dark and light, of loss and love. A story of faith and fury, of causes and curses, of horrors real and imagined, of unbridled ego and brute force filmmaking. It's the movie critics called "religious pornography" and "occultist claptrap." The 1973 movie that left audiences... hysterical. Decades later, it remains perhaps the most frightening film we will ever see. From Wondery, and Mark Ramsey Media, this is a seven-part deep dive inspired by the story behind an unforgettable horror classic. This is... Inside The Exorcist! :-O ;-) :-D

Intensive Care: is one of those times I'm going to have to use some artistic license in order to justify it's inclusion... because it's not a serialised work of horror fiction, like (most of) the other examples shared (thus far) in this month-long blogathon but, rather, a self-contained horror story of just over half an hour in length. To wit, Alex Ericcson (Nat Angstrom) is checked into a New England Hospital after a major car accident. His accommodations are not so state of the art and there is something… off, about his fellow patients. And, are those screams in the distance? The more he wakes up to his situation, the more Alex realises his condition is more critical than he could ever believe! :-O ;-) :-D

FROM 'THE PODCAST HOST' WEBSITE: This is an intense psychological horror that will put you through the wringer. Protagonist Alex wakes up in a New England Hospital following a serious car accident. His immediate concern is the health and wellbeing of his girlfriend, but as the creepy behaviour of his fellow patients as well as the hospital staff begins to unsettle him, it becomes increasingly clear that his problems are much bigger than he’d originally anticipated. Intensive Care runs for just over half an hour, but it packs one hell of a punch… you have been warned! :-O

Anyhow, that's all I've got time for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my next batch of petrifying podcast recommendations, when I will provide even more links to further audio "treats", only next time they'll be titles that begin with the letter 'J' of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Ten' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you will be able to listen to them all through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the "Countdown To Hallowe'en" website and show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' taking part this year. I know they'll appreciate it, if you visit their blogs and share your thoughts on the contribution(s) they've made! ;-) :-D

ONE LAST THING, BEFORE I GO: Don't forget that, aside from the Hallowe'en / Horror-themed ghastliness going on around these parts for the next month, you can also keep up with the UK Roku action (as it happens) by checking-out my regular 'Weekly RoundUp' posts each weekend where you will find up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related is posted on a weekly basis (well, almost).
