... and welcome to 'Day Fifteen' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O
If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published fifteen days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet every day of the month. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D
For my fifteenth post in this series I'm going to share links to a far lower amount of audio "treats" than there have been over the last few days, but (again) they'll all be from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the unifying "trick" (sic) being that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'O' - although (again) artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, to avoid posting too many links for letter 'T' on 'Day Twenty' of this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'O' of the (horror) alphabet:-
Oh No, Ross and Carrie: is a skeptical podcast, about Spiritualism and the Paranormal, produced in Los Angeles and distributed by the 'Maximum Fun' network. Hosts, Ross Blocher and Carrie Poppy, personally investigate claims about spirituality, fringe-science, religion, and the paranormal, then discuss their findings on the show. If it has an extraordinary claim attached to it, they will endeavour to check it out. What's interesting is that, rather than simply report on these topics, they actively take-part in them... whether it's joining various religions, undergoing alternative medical treatments, or physically hunting for ghost, goblins, demons, and deities! :-O Every month they share a new investigation, along with occasional bonus interviews and updates. Since starting the show in 2011, they've been ear-candled, fire-cupped, energy-healed, sensory-deprived, exorcised, over-heated, and more. They have also joined Scientology, Mormonism, Raëlism, Eckankar, the Ordo Templi Orientis, and several others. Among their many exciting (if unlikely) adventures, Ross and Carrie have looked for ghosts on the Queen Mary, attempted to predict the future by having their palms read, and even re-visited the past in their subconscious. So, why not listen-in as they go about their investigations and find the humour in life's biggest mysteries? :-D They show up for it all - so you don’t have to! ;-)

The Other Stories: is a weekly short story podcast. However, these aren't the stories your mother used to tell you ... no, these are The Other Stories! :-O Produced by 'Hawk & Cleaver' (aka Luke Kondor and Cleaver | A Digital Story Studio), you can think of it as a modern take on 'The Twilight Zone', or 'Tales From The Crypt', or 'The Outer Limits', or (perhaps) those stories from early 20th-century pulp magazines. The difference with these shows is: those classic stories become part of today's world, to the extent that anything from 'YouTube' to your bedroom mirror can produce monsters like vampires, zombies, and misfits! :-O Another great thing about it is how using many different narrators serves to heighten the listener's sense of dread. Granted the stories are solid enough, in their own right, but are definitely made better by the excellent narration. It's a definite highlight having theses Sci-Fi, Horror, Thriller, and 'WTF' stories delivered to your podcast feed on Monday morning every week. The other big plus, for those who (like me) don’t have a lot of spare time on their hands, is that the episodes are typically only about 25 minutes long... which means they're easy to fit in, regardless of your schedule. So, if brief tales about zombies or vampires are your thing, give this a listen... but, if it's last thing at night, be sure to check for monsters (under the bed) before you turn off the light! :-O ;-) :-D
