Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 12: Horror Series Beginning With The Letter 'L' !!

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Twelve' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-) :-D

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published twelve days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article every day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet each and every day. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D

For my twelfth post in this series I'm going to share links to a much larger amount of audio "treats" than there were yesterday, but (again) they will all be from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, and the unifying "trick" (sic) is that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'L' - although some artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, so as to avoid having to post too many links for letter 'T' on 'Day Twenty' of this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'L' of the (horror) alphabet:-

Last Podcast On The Left: is a weekly horror-comedy hybrid podcast featuring comedian and podcast host Ben Kissel, podcast producer & researcher Marcus Parks, along with comedian and actor Henry Zebrowski, all of whom are longtime friends. The show covers all the horrors our world has to offer, both imagined and real: from demons and slashers, to cults and serial killers, it's guaranteed to satisfy your blood lust. Each week they present their research and findings on a new horror topic. Aside from the afore-mentioned topics, these can also include: hauntings, alien abductions, conspiracy theories, and cryptids. The best episodes tend to be reality-based, e.g. their profiles of serial killers, but they are equally capable of making almost any topic interesting and, at times, even terrifying! :-O ;-) :-D

Let's Not Meet - A True Horror Podcast: consists of "true horror stories, written by those that made it out alive!" and takes the form of first-person accounts, narrated and produced by Andrew Tate, in an anthology of terror & suspense. It's a fantastic non-fiction horror storytelling podcast, in which the stories come from audience submissions to the 'LetsNotMeet' community on the 'Reddit' website. The show's host reads creepy, horrifying, and unbelievable stories of bizarre occurrences that make most people's lives seem pretty normal by comparison. From stalkers, to creepy strangers, and even scary work colleagues these stories will have you thinking carefully about every interaction you have! :-O

LifeAfter: is a podcast series from 'GE Podcast Theater' and 'Panoply', which takes the listener on a journey to the limits of technology. The story centres around Ross, a low level employee at the FBI, who spends his days conversing online with his wife Charlie – now eight months deceased. But the technology behind this digital resurrection leads Ross down a dangerous path that threatens his job, his own life, and maybe even the world. Winner of the Cannes Gold Lion. Sometimes, the best stories are the ones that hit just a shade too close to home. With how in-depth social media profiles are, could you bring someone to life with access to that information and a smart enough computer program? Not without the realms of possibility, that’s precisely what 'LifeAfter' suggests, as it follows the grieving husband Ross who is given the ability to “speak” to his wife. The real problems arise when the same program that makes it possible for Ross to "communicate" with his dead wife, asks him repeatedly to obtain information by using his FBI privileges. It grows more & more disturbing, the deeper it goes into the conspiracy, making for an entertaining and thought-provoking listen! :-D

The Lift: is an exceptionally well-produced horror anthology podcast, put together by Daniel Foytik and Cynthia Lowman, about an abandoned building and (in particular) the elevator in that building... which is inhabited by the spectre of a young girl named Victoria. Multiple authors contribute to the audio series, but each episode features a story of Victoria meeting a new person. Whether Victoria and her companion are discovering portals within the building, fighting a destructive force there, or simply trying to solve the problems of the visitor, there is an undeniable element of adventure to this series. While it may be lighter on the horror side, than most of the other podcasts listed, the ambience created by the music, coupled with some terrific voice work, lends this anthology an eerie quality that more than compensates for any lack of gore. So what are you waiting for? Let's go for a Ride! ;-) :-D

Limetown: is a podcast fiction series created by 'Two-Up Productions' that debuted on July 29, 2015 and became the number one US podcast on iTunes less than two months later. The show has drawn comparisons to the popular podcast 'Serial' and nineties television show 'The X-Files'. The producers of 'Limetown', pitch this as “an audio drama reinvented for the podcast age” and, much like another series - called "The Black Tapes" - covered on 'Day Two' of this month-long blogathon, 'Limetown' follows the reporting of a fictional public radio journalist. The background to the story began around ten years prior, when over three hundred men, women and children disappeared from a small town in Tennessee, never to be heard from again. Cut to the present, and American Public Radio reporter Lia Haddock is asking the question once more: "What happened to the people of Limetown?"! :-O ;-) :-D

The Lineup Podcast: explores real-world cases of strange happenings, true crimes and bizarre locales. It's educational and insightful, but with a creepy twist... it is a strange world out there, after all! ;-) :-D With each episode, 'The Lineup Podcast' unearths a new case—from eerie destinations to bizarre true crimes throughout history. Produced with love and mayhem by The Lineup staff, with their partners in crime at America's Most Haunted, this is sure to send a shiver or two down your spine! ;-)

Lore: is one of the most popular horror podcast series ever... and I mean EVER! So, if you have yet to experience this, you are in for a real treat! ;-) :-D The success of 'Lore' stems from understanding an important aspect of horror: i.e. old things are (almost always) inherently scary! :-O Lore is all about folklore - sometimes straightforward, sometimes fantastical, but always spooky! Host Aaron Mahnke picks a subject: like werewolves, Lovecraft, or even something as basic as fire, then explores the ways humanity has crafted legends and symbols out of them to scare ourselves. Since the show’s debut in 2015, it has presented bi-weekly tales of folklore and mystery, narrated by Mahnke in his calm, reserved monotone. Along the way, it has become a full-fledged media brand unto itself, inspiring a number of books, a series from Amazon Prime, and an immersive haunted house. There’s nothing innately scary about the show’s production or Mahnke’s delivery, unto itself; the fascination is more in the way the show’s tales echo the common urban legends that permeate our society, or how the details of one story may tie into famous horror tales like Dracula. In that sense, 'Lore' is as much about the influence of folklore as it is the legends themselves. It’s a show that Mahnke will no doubt be able to keep producing as long as he's interested in re-telling "true life scary stories", each offering a dark, historic tale or forgotten tragedy, that has been re-brewed for modern sensibilities! ;-) :-D

The Lost Cat Podcast: is a modern homage to Edgar Allen Poe’s obsessive, paranoiac narrators and the endlessly disturbing worlds in which they live. Written and performed by Andrew P. Clarke, it’s surreal, blackly comedic, and often totally bizarre, but the concept is irresistibly simple: subsequent episodes, each of which run between 20 and 30 minutes in length, follow the narrator as he continues the ongoing search for his cat. Along the way, what he finds is a host of compelling weirdness, that includes monsters, ghosts, Old Ones, some cats, several ends of the world, plus a lot of wine! :-D ;-)
