Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 02: Horror Series Beginning With The Letter 'B' !!

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Two' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-)

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published two days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article every day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet each and every day. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D

For my sophomore post I'm going to up the ante by sharing some links to an even larger amount of audio "treats", again in the form of various podcasts from the spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the unifying "trick" (sic) that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'B' - although some artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, so as to avoid having to post too many links for letter 'T' on 'Day Twenty' of this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'B' of the (horror) alphabet:-

Bad Girls Die First: A horror podcast from two women who know their place in a slasher flick. Cara Vescio and Erin DeMoss love horror movies enough to sit and talk about them for hours… they then upload their conversations as podcast episodes so others can listen and enjoy their lengthy chats! :-)

The Black Tapes: The Black Tapes is a fictional podcast series created by Paul Bae and Terry Miles. It's a remarkable reconstruction of podcasting as a medium and a fun, scary story to boot! Released as a spin-off from the fictional radio program 'Pacific Northwest Stories' - hence the 'PNWS' in the lower right-hand corner of the above image - the story begins as a biography of paranormal investigator, by the name of Dr. Richard Strand (voiced by Christian Sloan): an "evangelical skeptic" on a mission to debunk all claims of the supernatural. Reporter Alex Regan (voiced by Lori Henry) soon develops an interest in his collection of unsolved cases, which she begins calling his "Black Tapes", and the series evolves into an exploration of these cases, paranormal culture, and the mysterious life of Dr. Strand! Described as 'Serial' meets the 'X-Files', with episodes varying in length from around thirty-five up to fifty minutes or more, throughout the serialised storyline you can expect to be treated to some great spooky side-quests and an epic overarching narrative about lost daughters and corporate cover-ups!

Blackwood: Five years ago, Molly Weaver, Bryan Anderson, and Nathan Howell started a podcast focused on the local legend of a monster called The Blackwood Bugman. Quickly, the investigation grows out of their control, as they discover that, not only are the legends seemingly true, many people in Blackwood have turned up dead or disappeared without a trace. Worse, there may be a reason why no one has ever uncovered the truth before. Someone is watching them, willing to do whatever it takes to keep the secret. Their recordings have finally been released!

Blank is the Killer: Host Josh Baker describes this as "The unoriginal horror movie podcast" in which he talks about six new (to him, at least) horror movies with a spooky seventh topic at the end… all of which is released bi-weekly on Sunday nights. If you're looking for horror movie recommendations, or to hear one man's opinion of which ones to (possibly) avoid, then this might be podcast for you! ;-)

The Blood Crow Stories: is an anthology series of horror stories. Each season they tell a new, original story over the course of 20 episodes. Their first season highlights the story of the S.S. Utopia, a cruise ship in the early 1900's. Modern-day college student, Max, begins to do his thesis on the audio diaries of the passengers on the ship. What he doesn't expect are the horrors waiting for him among the tapes and the true reason why the ship sank so mysteriously almost 100 years ago... The second season was called 'Blackchapel', and takes place in the Old West as Sheriff Eli Thomas pulls together a team to investigate a series of murders committed by the followers of someone known as "the Savior". With the body count rising almost every second, the "Blackchapel Seven" move to track down the killers and bring them to justice, even as the Seven are forced to confront the sins of their pasts... Their third season, 'The Neon Lodge', takes place in the cyberpunk future of Gate City, a town of socio-economic inequality, underground data delivery, and more than a few biblical demons. They've crawled up from the Hellmouth long ago and have fully integrated into society, controlling all of our world. Kesha Charles, a 911 operator, and her girlfriend Tiffany are thrown into the middle of a demonic conflict that has existed for centuries, and now Kesha must find a way to help keep her city safe...

The Box: When Addison Gilmore found the old lockbox of journals filled with entries about bizarre and terrifying events, she thought she'd stumbled upon a unique mass participation fiction project. But as she shares those stories and digs into their contents, it becomes increasingly clear that these journals are more than they seem... and she's in over her head. The Box is a serialised horror story delivered as an audio drama podcast. It is written and produced by Lauren Nelson, who also plays the role of Addison. The show follows her misadventures after she discovers a box of strange journals in the bookstore where she works. Soon after, she begins to realise that the terrifying stories within them are not the fictional tales they appear to be, but based on actual events. The revelation that it’s all real thrusts Addison into a world of magic, the supernatural, and all manner of mysteries, putting her life, and maybe ours, at risk in the process. Punctuating the fantastical elements of the story are pieces of life back in the real world, ranging from historical references to interviews with actual experts on the subject matter being discussed. The blending of reality with fiction voiced by talents across the globe, and paired with social media accounts in the voice of Addison, creates a unique listener experience.

Anyhow, that's all I've got time for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my next batch of petrifying podcast recommendations, when I will provide even more links to further audio "treats", only next time they'll all be titles that begin with the letter 'C' of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Three' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you will be able to listen to them all through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the "Countdown To Hallowe'en" website and show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' taking part this year. ONE LAST THING, BEFORE I GO: Don't forget that, aside from the Hallowe'en / Horror-themed ghastliness going on around these parts for the next month, you can also keep up with the UK Roku action (as it happens) by checking-out my regular 'Weekly RoundUp' posts each weekend where you will find up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related is posted on a weekly basis (well, almost).
