Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 20: Horror Series Beginning With The Letter 'T' !!

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Twenty' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published twenty days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet every day of the month. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D

For my twentieth post in this series I'm going to share links for a (slightly) lower amount of audio "treats" than there were yesterday, but (again) they'll all be from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the unifying "trick" (sic) being that the title for each of these podcast series will begin with the letter 'T' - although (again) artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, for 'Day Twenty' just as I have been doing with all of my previous posts in this month-long blogathon. So, with that one caveat now clarified, here's my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with letter 'T' of the (horror) alphabet:-

Tales from Beyond the Pale: is a horror podcast series, by Larry Fessenden and Glenn McQuaid, that is presented by 'Glass Eye Pix' and inspired by 1930's radio dramas. It features several seasons worth of radio plays and has some amazing actors (like Ron Perlman) involved in the production! :-D

Tales to Terrify: is a 'Parsec' award-winning horror-themed podcast by Tony C. Smith, who is also the owner-host of 'Hugo' award-winning 'StarShipSofa'. Their weekly episodes get under your skin, then lay eggs, and hatch writhing "baby horrors", nursed on your darkest fears. Unique in simplicity, they bring pure tales of terror to your ears, audiobook-style, unadulterated and unadorned! :-D This show also has great artwork for pretty much every episode and they often add multiple short stories to each one. Just be sure to start with the older 'Tales to Terrify' episodes featuring Larry Santoro who, during his tenure on the show, was one of the best hosts out there. With a voice akin to those from the golden age of radio, and a magnificent grasp on storytelling, he really made you "feel" the horror! :-O ;-)

The Talking Dead: is a fan podcast dedicated to the 'AMC TV' show "The Walking Dead". They’ve been releasing episodes since September 2009, and have recorded hundreds of episodes thus far. The co-hosts, Chris and Jason, are a couple of guys who happen to be huge fans of "The Walking Dead", TV, and podcasting. They claim that this trident of interests make them the perfect candidates to run a podcast dedicated to a zombie TV series... and, in fairness, they do a pretty good job! :-D For what it's worth, Chris also co-hosts a podcast about the 'Starz' show "Ash vs. Evil Dead" at podcastica.com, but that's another whole story unto itself. For now, I suggest giving 'The Talking Dead' a listen! ;-) :-)

Tanis: is a mystery horror fiction podcast, executive produced by Terry Miles plus co-produced by a man who happens to be the voice of the podcast's narrator - Nic Silver - and, if you think that name sounds familiar, he also looks after Alex Reagan's podcast (The Black Tapes)... so you know you're in good hands! :-O :-D This is a serialised bi-weekly podcast, presented as a joint venture between  the 'Public Radio Alliance' and 'Minnow Beats Whale', and is something about which Terry and Nic have been obsessing for well over a decade: a fascinating and surprising mystery - the myth of Tanis. It's an exploration of the nature of truth, conspiracy, and information. Tanis is what happens when the lines of science and fiction start to blur... so give it a listen, if you're curious about what's in store! ;-)

This American Horror Story Podcast: is an unofficial weekly podcast, produced by Tyler Moss, about the 'FX' television show "American Horror Story" wherein, each week, the TV addicts / faux critics who host the series, namely Tyler Moss and Kris Husted, break down what has been going-on in each episode. Kris and Tyler's weekly recaps of the hit 'FX' series are really engaging and create a feeling like you’re sitting with friends, chatting about the show. With each podcast episode averaging around one hour in length, the timing fits in perfectly with a daily commute... so what are you waiting for? ;-)

In the blurb for the series, it says they've interviewed 100+ creatives, including: Joe Hill, Joe Lansdale, Charlaine Harris, Ellen Datlow, David Moody, Jennifer Lynch, Gemma Files, and Josh Malerman. This Paranormal Life: is a podcast series which combines true-crime storytelling, improv comedy, radio-quality sound design, and a tonne of wild speculation. Topics range from punching Bigfoot to hunting Ancient Aliens when, every Tuesday, hosts Rory Powers and Kit Grier investigate a different paranormal case to find the truth inside the mystery. What happened at Roswell? Did ancient aliens build the pyramids? Does Obama run the Illuminati? Is the government plotting to take our guns? Answers to these questions and more are revealed, each week, on the 'This Paranormal Life' podcast. As the "Winner" of the 'Gold' award for "Best Entertainment" (from Sony Music’s 4th Floor Creative) at the British Podcast Awards 2019, this is one podcast series you definitely won't want to miss! ;-) :-)

Transmissions From Jonestown: is a podcast series produced by Shannon Howard, and presented by The Attention Span Recovery Project, which provides an in-depth look at Peoples Temple and the Jonestown tragedy. On 18th November 1978, Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple died in Jonestown as the result of what is considered to be the largest mass suicide in modern history. Locked deep within an FBI vault, the tapes chronicling the history of Peoples Temple were finally made public after 20 years. From Jim Jones shady beginnings as a faith healer to that final tragic night that his loyal followers drank the Kool-Aid. This series pieces together the history of the Peoples Temple and tries to understand what led to their demise. Most of us, who have already heard of this story, would likely have had it presented as an egomaniacal madman and his brainwashed cult of zombie followers all committing mass suicide in the heart of darkness. As outsiders, it can be difficult to reconcile the evidence collected in Jonestown with societies belief that the Peoples Temple willingly murdered their children and committed mass suicide. There are so many discrepancies including the body count, the mysterious presence of the CIA, the number of unidentified bodies and the lack of autopsies that the true history of Peoples Temple and where it all went terribly wrong requires some audio archeology. Using raw audio recorded by Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple, many never before heard moments of Peoples Temple life can now be analysed. This podcast aims to give those recordings historical context. Ultimately more true crime, than horror, but still creepy as hell! :-O :-)

Trick or Treat Radio:  is a phantasmagorical spin-kick straight through the heart of horror and pop culture, navigated by members of the world's greatest Electro-Shock band, The Deadites, as they destroy monsters, drink booze, win championship belts, and host this award-winning weekly podcast. They discuss all manner of topics including, but not limited to: genre cinema with a horror bent, music, comic books (DC, Marvel and independents), video games, professional wrestling, and anything else that's relevant to the interests of the show. This podcast is explicit and, therefore, not recommended for the faint of heart. It's broadcast live Wednesday evenings, from 9pm to midnight, but if you miss the live broadcast (or just want to listen again) the podcast is available on Fridays. As the world’s most dangerous podcast, recorded with an undead studio audience at Castle Wolfenstein, they discuss at least one film a week, argue, make fun of each other, and hope to make their listeners laugh: some hosts might even die trying! :-O ;-) According to 'Rue Morgue', as well as 'Blumhouse', and 'Entertainment Weekly'... 'Trick or Treat Radio' is one of the top horror podcasts, so why not join hosts Johnny Wolfenstein, MonsterZero, Ares, and Michael Ravenshadow to see if you agree! ;-) :-D

The Truth: is a proud member of 'Radiotopia' from 'PRX' and claim to make "movies for your ears", by which they mean short stories that are sometimes dark, sometimes funny, but always intriguing. Every story is different... and they all take you to unexpected places, using only sound. Due to the nature of these recordings, listening with headphones is not only encouraged but an absolute must! While not every episode of 'The Truth' podcast is about the paranormal or supernatural, most episodes will unsettle you in some way. This anthology fiction series, produced by Jonathan Mitchell, features original works acted and is performed by such incredibly talented voices that it will likely convince you there is actually a film in your head. Although it's not a horror podcast per se, a great many of their episodes feature a distinctive horror slant. As episodes usually only run for about 10-25 minutes, this is a great podcast for a quick fix. In addition to their horror-themed episodes, their library spans every genre from action to romance, and each episode uses new stories, writers, and actors, so it all feels really fresh. If you'd like a good starting point, try "Sylvia’s Blood" for starters... it's based on a book by Phillip K. Dick, called "Upon the Dull Earth", and tells the story of a young couple that toys with blood magic in the hope their ritual will allow them to bargain with angels. The sound design for this episode is mind-blowing, and is practically guaranteed to leave you wanting more! ;-) :-D

Anyhow, that's all there is for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my next batch of petrifying podcast recommendations, when I will provide some more links to further audio "treats", only next time they'll be titles that begin with the letter 'U' of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Twenty-One' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you'll be able to listen to them all through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the "Countdown To Hallowe'en" website and show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' taking part this year. I know they'll appreciate it, if you visit their blogs and share your thoughts on the contribution(s) they've made! ;-) :-D

*********************************************

ONE LAST THING, BEFORE I GO: Don't forget that, aside from the Hallowe'en / Horror-themed ghastliness going on around these parts for the next month, you can also keep up with the UK Roku action (as it happens) by checking-out my regular 'Weekly RoundUp' posts each weekend where you will find up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related is posted on a weekly basis (well, almost).

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
