Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 16: Horror Series Beginning With The Letter 'P' !!

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Sixteen' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I aim to bring you another batch of Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - any of which can be streamed to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim down those lights... for more audio frights! :-O

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - that I published sixteen days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet every day of the month. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously that will still leave five more days worth of posts, by the time we reach the end of the alphabet, so I'll put my thinking cap on (between now & then) to (hopefully) come up with some extra audio "treats" for you by then. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and All Hallows' Eve on October 31st! :-D

For my sixteenth post in this series I'm going to share links to a (slightly) larger amount of audio "treats" than there were yesterday, but (again) they'll all be from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the unifying "trick" (sic) being that the title for each of these podcast series begins with the letter 'P' - although (again) artistic licence has been taken to ignore "The", when used at the start of the title, to avoid posting too many links for letter 'T' on 'Day Twenty' of this month-long blogathon. So, without further ado, here are my suggestions for Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... the titles for which all begin with the letter 'P' of the (horror) alphabet:-

Palimpsest: is a (mostly) single-voiced audio drama, by Jamieson Ridenhour and Hayley Heninger, about memory, identity, and things that haunt us. It’s a podcast that plays with your mind, weaving a contemplative, psychological literary story (similar to "The Haunting of Hill House", if you know it). Each ten-episode season is a unique and self-contained story, exploring the spaces between horror, fantasy, and psychological realism! :-O They tend to release new episodes bi-weekly on Tuesdays. That said... the show is currently on hiatus, while season three is in production, but (thankfully) the first two seasons are available (and bingeable!) on a number of podcast platforms! ;-) :-D

Co-created & produced by Peter Dunne together with Liam Geraghty, two horror masters at the top of their game, these are the chilling tales of people who heard something. Something they really shouldn't have heard. Episode One: Dead Air is the torrid tale of a late night radio show host, plying his trade from a remote station, who receives increasingly disturbing calls from out in the dark. Listen at your own risk. The Phenomenon: is a science-fiction / fantasy audio drama horror podcast, from Luciola Creative. Inspired by the serialised science-fiction radio shows of yesteryear, 'The Phenomenon' is a fictional podcast with an international cast, plus rich sound design, that follows people from around the world during a catastrophic extraterrestrial invasion. Based on a novel (of the same name) that was written by R.K. Katic, this saga of a supernatural threat which drives mankind to the point of extinction, sees survivors around the globe struggling to endure in a world with just three rules: Do not look outside. Do not look at the sky. Do not make noise. As they battle these bizarre entities from outer space, that have descended on Earth, they're not only forced to confront human evil, but also another, even more dire threat, which looks to take advantage of the apocalypse to seize dominion over Earth! :-O ;-) :-D

Pleasing Terrors: features stories about haunted places, creepy history, and forgotten folklore. Join acclaimed ghost storyteller, Mike Brown, for a bi-weekly tour through the shadows of history. Mike runs 'Old Charleston Tours' in South Carolina and has spent over 20 years researching and sharing the darker side of our past. His storytelling expertise has featured on the 'BBC', 'Voice of America Radio', and 'Destination America's Ghost Asylum'. By way of comparison to other (similar) podcast series, this 'Pleasing Terrors' podcast is akin to 'Lore', as featured on 'Day Twelve' of this blogathon, and is very well put-together (with most stories rooted in historical fact) so, give it a listen! ;-)

Point Mystic: is an award winning, independent audio drama of magical realism and horror told through the frame of narrative radio journalism. It is created through a combination of written story, scripted and improvised dialog, plus the odd real-life interview. This series of podcasts, all of which were written by Christopher Reynaga for October Isle, explores the "stories behind the magic" and sees the writer joined by Marguerite Croft, and Fox, as they investigate all manner of magic, mystery, and the unexplained, in their quest to uncover the secrets of Point Mystic. The place in which the tale unfolds is a legendary place of doors where a supernatural lighthouse watches over the treacherous reefs of all other worlds. It is also a hidden point not found on any map. More than that, however, it is the community called to this place, who watch over and protect each other, which uncovers the truth about 'Point Mystic' - when their stories of magic, mystery, and the unexplained, reveal it's secret! :-O

Post Mortem - With Mick Garris: is a horror podcast, produced by Mick Garris, and presented by the Fangoria Podcast Network. It's not a narrative / story podcast, but is great for interviews with horror personalities and horror directors as there are lots of big names featured in the series. New episodes are released (on average) every other week and, for each one, film-maker / author Mick Garris who is best-known for his Stephen King adaptations, and creating the "Masters Of Horror" television series, dives deep into the devious minds of the greatest filmmakers (and creators) of your worst nightmares, to bring their distinctive visions to life, through these fascinating one-on-one conversations! :-D

Pseudopod: is an horror anthology podcast wherein, each week, they bring you the best short horror in audio form, to take with you anywhere. Pseudopod has won the annual Parsec Awards twice, been a finalist six times, and may also do something more extreme than any other horror podcast: in that it pays its contributors! :-O It's been bringing scary stories, from highly-skilled storytellers, to an avid group of listeners since 2006. The stories presented here are intended to disturb. They are likely to contain death, graphic violence, explicit sex (including sexual violence), hate crimes, blasphemy, or other themes and images that hook deep into your psyche! There's no ratings or content warnings but they assume (because you're listening) that you wish to be disturbed for your entertainment. That said, they do start the shows with a “trigger warning section” which provides a "heads-up" as to what type of horror is about to be experienced (e.g. murder, abuse, monster sounds, etc.) which can also come in handy if you are planning to listen in an "open" environment (at work, or elsewhere)! ;-) :-D

Anyhow, that's all I've got time for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my next batch of petrifying podcast recommendations, when I will provide more links to further audio "treats", only next time they'll be titles that begin with the letter 'Q' of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Seventeen' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you will be able to listen to them all through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the "Countdown To Hallowe'en" website and show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' taking part this year. I know they'll appreciate it, if you visit their blogs and share your thoughts on the contribution(s) they've made! ;-) :-D

ONE LAST THING, BEFORE I GO: Don't forget that, aside from the Hallowe'en / Horror-themed ghastliness going on around these parts for the next month, you can also keep up with the UK Roku action (as it happens) by checking-out my regular 'Weekly RoundUp' posts each weekend where you will find up-to-the-minute info on all things Roku-related is posted on a weekly basis (well, almost).
