Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 31: BONUS AUDIO "TREATS" (PART FIVE) !! :-O

HAPPY HALLOWE'EN, EVERYBODY !!!!!!!

Well, Boils & Ghouls... the BIG DAY has arrived! :-) Yes, October 31st is here at last so FINALLY we can REALLY get into the spirit of things (ahem!) and celebrate HALLOWE'EN in fine style! ;-) :-) Of course, this also means the Countdown To Hallowe'en 2019 is now over, and this will be the last post in my month-long blogathon for "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku"! :-( ;-)

So, let's begin 'Day Thirty-One' of  "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" with my last pick of the Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - and which (like all others before it) you can stream to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - now, let's dim those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-) :-)

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - published thirty-one days ago, then you'll know I've been posting one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet on every day of the month. For the sake of simplicity, I decided to begin this series of blog posts with the letter 'A' on 'Day One', followed by letter 'B' on 'Day Two', letter 'C' on 'Day Three', and so on and so forth, right the way through to letter 'Z' on 'Day Twenty-Six'. Obviously as we've now reached 'Day Thirty-One', and not only reached the end of the alphabet (five days ago), but also published four days' worth of bonus audio "treats" already, that leaves just one more post... so, having put my thinking cap on over the past few weeks, I came-up with what I believe will be an horror podcast series that is truly worthy of ending this month-long blogathon. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I could find, from the start to the end of the month, you are now completely spoilt for choice as to where you source your listening pleasure this Hallowe'en, and (possibly) have enough spine-tingling audio thrills & chills to keep you going till next October! ;-) :-)

Anyway, for my thirty-first (and final) post in this series I'm going to share links to multiple horror movie review podcasts - spanning decades of film - all of which are produced by the same folks who bring us both 'Gruesome Magazine' and 'Horror News Radio', so they really know their stuff! :-D ;-) For the sake of simplicity I'm (again) going to focus on just one audio "treat" but, even though it's a single podcast series, the show has (thankfully) been running long enough to have produced multiple episodes and the producers have come-up with several other horror-themed podcasts for which I also plan to include links as part of this article. So, although you'll be able to use the links below to access a complete archive of any show they've recorded, the "trick" (sic) in this instance is I'll be specifically highlighting one series for the purposes of this post. Given how my own introduction to horror films came from what is deemed as "The Classic Era", in horror circles, I thought I'd go with a podcast covering that period. So, without further ado, here's the final Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series of the month and my last bit of "ear candy", from five days of bonus audio treats, to end it all:-

Decades of Horror - The Classic Era: is but one of half-a-dozen 'Decades of Horror' podcast series that are available from the guys behind 'Gruesome Magazine' and 'Horror News Radio', each specific to the discussion of films from different time periods. This being "The Classic Era" podcast, it spans the decades from 1920-1969 (inclusive) and features movies from both the classic horror plus science fiction genres. Hosted by Jeff Mohr, Joseph Perry, Erin Miskell, and Chad Hunt, this podcast covers the good, the bad, and even the ugly horror films released, from the beginning of time, through 1969. In each show, they discuss the villains, monsters, spirits, and psychos that have haunted movie-going audiences since the dawn of film. From genre favourites, such as: 'Psycho', 'Frankenstein', 'Dracula', 'Night of the Living Dead', 'Cat People', and 'The Fly', featuring the work of directors like Hitchcock, Castle, Whale, Lewton, and Corman, they provide an essential guide to a time in horror film-making that really ought to be embraced by any true fan of macabre movies. It's about more than box office hits though... and, for every 'King Kong' or 'Bride of Frankenstein', there's a fair amount of what can only be described as "hidden gems", i.e. more obscure film picks, such as 'Maneater of Hydra' (1967) [aka "Island of the Doomed", or "The Bloodsuckers"] and 'The Queen of Spades' (1949), all of which are dissected and reminisced over. Each of the hosts, who are all clearly as nuts about classic horror as I am, bring their own unique perspective to the discussions - making them even more enjoyable! :-)

Of all the 'Decades of Horror' podcasts, it's "The Classic Era" which has the best spread of decades from which the films discussed originate. As mentioned previously, that means any given film from that series could be a macabre movie classic from the 1920's, 1930's, 1940's, 1950's, or 1960's... but, what you won't find is anything from subsequent decades, because everything from the seventies is covered in "Decades of Horror: 1970's" - which includes all horror films from 1970 to 1979 - and, likewise, any films from the eighties will be covered as part of their "Decades of Horror: 1980's" series. So if you're more a fan of 70's and/or 80's horror, than the earlier classics, you might prefer to listen to one (or both) of those podcast series - instead of (or, in addition to) the one I've chosen to highlight for the purposes of this article. Those of you who are not so long in the tooth may like to try their "Decades of Horror: 1990's and Beyond" series of podcast episodes, which look at films like 'The Sixth Sense', 'Ginger Snaps', 'Blair Witch Project', 'Black Swan', 'Candyman', and 'Saw', etc, etc. but, whichever decade(s) of horror you're into, it's safe to say that these "Decades of Horror" podcasts will have something to please pretty much every fan of the genre in one (or more) of their series! ;-)

Still, that's all I've got time for today... and sadly that's all for this year, too, but do remember to come back next year, for the followup to "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" when I reveal whatever Hallowe'en treats I can find for 2020, right here on this blog. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the Countdown To Hallowe'en website and continue to show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' who took part this time, as well as in previous years. I know they will all appreciate it, if you visit their blogs and share your thoughts on the contribution(s) they've made! ;-)

Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 30: BONUS AUDIO "TREATS" (PART FOUR) !! :-O

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Thirty' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" in which I'll bring you another Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - and which (like all others before it) you can stream to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-)

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - published thirty days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet on every day of the month. Obviously as we've now reached 'Day Thirty', and (therefore) already reached the end of the alphabet, that leaves just two more days' worth of posts... so, having put my thinking cap on over the past few weeks, I came-up with some extra bonus audio "treats" to share with you in what remains of this month-long blogathon. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and October 31st! ;-) :-)

For my thirtieth post in this series I'm (once more) going to share a link to just one audio "treat" but, even though it's a single podcast series, the show has (thankfully) been running long enough to have produced multiple episodes on the same theme. So, although you can use one of the links below to access a complete archive of all the shows they've recorded, the "trick" (sic) in this instance is that I will be specifically highlighting one episode for the purposes of this article. Given how today marks the 81st anniversary of the original broadcast for Orson Welles and Mercury Theatre’s performance of Howard Koch’s adaptation from H.G. Wells “The War of the Worlds”, I thought it might be fun to share that recording from 1938 to honour the (ahem) "spirit" of the (then) "new medium" of radio. So, without further ado, here's my suggestion for yet another Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast... as I hand-out my fourth selection of "ear candy" from five days of bonus audio treats coming your way:-

Everything War of the Worlds: is a podcast series, presented by NEOZAZ.com, in which they share their obsession with works inspired by, adapted from, and covering H. G. Wells' "War of the Worlds". In 2016 NEOZAZ.com held their first annual "War of the Worlds Week" event. Since then, they have made it a tradition to celebrate each October by sharing more episodes (old and new) all of which are dedicated to "War of the Worlds". This feed features every past episode (since that original event), and will also include all future "War of the Worlds" special episodes, in one easy-to-follow location.

As mentioned previously, you can use any of the podcast hosting services outlined above to access an entire archive of past episodes for "Everything War of the Worlds" and, in addition to those, you can also specifically search all other "Halloween" episodes produced by 'NeoZAZ'. However by way of providing additional information about this one particular episode, plus a link to listen online, I'm also including a direct link to the show notes as well as an 'MP3' file for this special (re-broadcast) podcast from 2018 of "The 1938 Broadcast" from 'The Mercury Theatre on the Air', so it can (optionally) be streamed via web browser during times when your Roku player may not be close at hand. That said, please feel free to jump-in to the archive(s) and enjoy any episode of your choosing. They are all, more or less, intended as an homage to both "War of the Worlds" and Old Time Radio (OTR) audio dramas as a whole... so go ahead, take your pick, and either experience the original 1938 show (as outlined below) or fill your lug-holes with another kind of "ear candy" care of the 'NeoZAZ' archives - because, once again, there are plenty more audio "bites" for those of you with bigger appetites! ;-) :-)

Everything War of the Worlds - The 1938 Broadcast (2018 Post)
RUN TIME: 01h 03m 24s

LISTEN TO "THE 1938 BROADCAST (2018 POST)" ONLINE

On the foggy evening of 30th October 1938, America went to war with Mars! :-O Adapted for radio by Howard Koch and broadcast in the United States through the Columbia Network of stations as an episode of ‘Mercury Theatre on the Air’, starring Orson Welles, "War of the Worlds" was presented as a Halloween thriller, or as Welles put it: "The Mercury Theatre’s own radio version of dressing up in a sheet and jumping out of a bush, saying ‘boo'!". This contemporary (podcast) representation of the original radio broadcast which (back in 1938) swept listeners into a fervour, capturing the hearts of thirties America with its story of an all-out invasion, is sure to get your heart pounding! :-O ;-) :-D

The radio programme, an adaptation of the 1898 novel by H.G Wells, was both directed and narrated by Orson Welles. Listen and bear witness to the simulated news bulletins & commentary, that caused some listeners to fear a Martian invasion had actually happened. Whilst the degree of real ‘terror’ has been possibly lost in history, it was one hell of a PR stunt. Possibly the most famous on radio ever. As in later years, it seems the outrage grew just as much after the broadcast, as it had during it! :-O ;-) :-)

Given how long ago this was recorded, you will have to expect some pops, hisses, and crackles, when you listen to this but, as far as I'm concerned, it only adds to the atmosphere (in a good way) though I understand that (for some) this may be an issue. In addition to finding this episode on Apple Podcasts and Castbox, you can also (if you so choose) listen via a 'YouTube' video uploaded by David Webb. If you opt for the latter, the run time is slightly shorter (57m 02s) because there is no introduction in the video, as there is in the podcast version(s) from the 'NeoZAZ' archive, and nothing added at the end. The video is nothing to do with 'NeoZAZ' but features the same 1938 broadcast.

Anyhow, that's all there is for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my final petrifying podcast recommendation, when I will provide another set of links to one last audio "treat", only next time it'll be a title (or titles) starting with a different random letter of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Thirty-One' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you'll be able to listen through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 29: BONUS AUDIO "TREATS" (PART THREE) !! :-O

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Twenty-Nine' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" in which I'll bring you another Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - and (like all others before it) you can stream this to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim those lights... for more audio frights! :-O

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - published twenty-nine days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet on every day of the month. Obviously as we've now reached 'Day Twenty-Nine', and (therefore) already reached the end of the alphabet, that leaves three more days' worth of posts... so, having put my thinking cap on over the past few weeks, I have come-up with some extra bonus audio "treats" to share with you in the remaining days of this month-long blogathon. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and October 31st! ;-) :-)

For my twenty-ninth post in this series I'm (once more) going to share a link to just one audio "treat" but, even though it's a single podcast series, the show has (thankfully) been running long enough to produce multiple "Halloween" episodes. So, although you can use one of the links below to access a complete archive of all the shows they've recorded, the "trick" (sic) in this instance is that I will be specifically highlighting one Halloween episode for the purposes of this article. Given how the posts in this month-long blogathon have all featured some kind of "ear candy" with a Halloween / Horror theme, I thought it might be fun to include an episode that talks about the history of Halloween candy because, let's face it, Halloween and candy go hand-in-hand... so, what better than a bit of "ear candy" (i.e. today's podcast episode) that discusses the origins and history of another candy (the sweet kind) to balance-out all those creepy and/or gory podcasts I've shared with you thus far? Sound good? If so, then here's my suggestion for a Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast of a different kind... as I hand-out my third selection of "ear candy" from five days of bonus audio treats coming your way:-

Stuff You Missed In History Class: is a podcast presented by 'iHeartRadio' and 'HowStuffWorks' that sees the show's hosts, Holly Frey and Tracy V. Wilson, explore the murky depths of history, so they can talk about some of the greatest and strangest stories from our past. By consistently averaging two half-hour stories per week covering the bizarre, obscure, bewildering, and often distasteful facets of human history, they have created what has become one of the world’s most popular podcast series. The majority of topics are from listener suggestions; others the hosts have stumbled upon. The end result is an archive of shows covering everything from the Villisca axe murders, that occured in southwestern Iowa during the summer of 1912, in which six members of the Moore family and two house guests were found bludgeoned to death... to the tale of a homeless New Yorker, by the name of "Durable Mike Malloy", who became the target of a 1930's murder plot - but refused to die! :-O ;-)

As mentioned previously, you can use any of the podcast hosting services outlined above to access an entire archive of past episodes for "Stuff You Missed In History Class" and, if need be, you can even specifically search just the "Halloween" episodes within those listings. However by way of providing additional information about this one particular episode, plus a link to listen online, I'm also including a direct link to the show notes as well as an 'MP3' file for this special Halloween podcast from 2014 on "The History of Halloween Candy", so that it can (optionally) be streamed directly in your web browser during times when your Roku player might not be close at hand. Likewise, please feel free to jump-in to the archive and enjoy any episode of your choosing. They're all, more or less, independent of each other with episodes being, for the most part, thematically unrelated... so go ahead, take your pick, and either fill your lug-holes with some more "ear candy", grab a handful of sugary "treats", or go for the healthy option and choose an apple - but, whatever you decide, just remember to leave some Halloween candy for others: it's good to share, 'cos it shows you care! ;-) :-D

Stuff You Missed in History Class - The History of Halloween Candy (2014)
RUN TIME: 32m 02s

LISTEN TO "THE HISTORY OF HALLOWEEN CANDY" ONLINE

Despite the relatively brief half-hour format, an average show requires between 16 and 24 hours of intense research and, if you click on the link for the "show notes" above, you will see a sample of the resources Holly used to research this episode on "The History of Halloween Candy" for the podcast. Her efforts produced some fascinating insights on the subject, as she endeavoured to find out when it was that candy became the standard for trick-or-treating, and who invented the holiday's most famous sweet treats like candy corn, plus a bunch of other related matters... such as October's original candy holiday, aka "Candy Day", which falls on the second Saturday of the month and is still celebrated in some parts of the United States to this day! :-O It's not all about North America either because, if you dig through the archives, there's plenty of episodes that stem from the British Isles for those seeking a strange tale native to these shores. For starters there's the tale of "Spring-Heeled Jack", a bounding scoundrel who plagued Victorian England. Then there's a strange story, from the early 1760's, of the so-called "Cock Lane Ghost" that haunted a London home - accusing her former lover of poisoning her - and which was able to communicate through a sequence of knocks. Another bizarre account tells of "The Hagley Woods Murder", which preceded a skeleton being found inside an elm tree in Birmingham, while the mystery of the deceased's identity, and how their body came to be there, remains unsolved to this day. Others may like to hear about "The Mystery of the Devil's Footprints" whereby, back in February of 1855, a number of mysterious prints (similar to hoof marks) appeared in various parts of the seaside county of Devon. Figuring out who (or what) made them is something that continues to befuddle those seeking an answer to this mystery. Also, from 12th century Suffolk, there's the strange tale of "The Green Children of Woolpit" wherein two children, whose skin looked green in appearance, were said to have roamed the countryside during that period. Much was written about them, over the 12th and 13th centuries, and some dismiss it as simply folklore... but, is it? :-O Plenty more bizarre, obscure, and bewildering stories from around the world populate their archive so, if you spend some time browsing through the episodes available, there's bound to be something that will appeal... or, in the very least, leave you curious enough to want to know more! ;-) :-D

Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 28: BONUS AUDIO "TREATS" (PART TWO) !! ;-) :-D

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Twenty-Eight' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I'll bring you another Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - and which (like all others before it) you can stream to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim those lights... for more audio frights! :-O ;-) :-)

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - published twenty-eight days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet on every day of the month. Obviously as we've now reached 'Day Twenty-Eight', and (therefore) already reached the end of the alphabet, that leaves four more days' worth of posts... so, having put my thinking cap on over the past few weeks, I have come-up with some extra bonus audio "treats" to share with you in the remaining days of this month-long blogathon. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and October 31st! ;-) :-)

For my twenty-eighth post in this series I'm going to share the link to just one audio "treat" but, even though it's a single podcast series, the show has (thankfully) been running long enough to produce no less than seven "Halloween Special" episodes. So, although you're welcome to use the links below to access a complete archive of all the shows they've recorded, the "trick" (sic) in this instance is that I will be specifically highlighting the Halloween episodes for the purposes of this article. Moreover, I'll be providing links to the show notes, for each of the seven episodes, the pages for which also include a link to download an 'MP3' file of the show. As if that wasn't enough, I'm adding an extra link beside each one so you can "listen online" to any (or all) of these "Halloween Special" episodes. So, without further delay, here's my suggestion for yet another Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... as I hand-out the second selection of "ear candy" from five days of bonus audio treats coming your way:-

The Dana Gould Hour: is a podcast series hosted by comedian Dana Gould, who also created horror show "Stan vs. Evil", during which he's joined in conversation by a variety of interesting personalities (including some fellow comedians) to discuss both the weird and the real going on in this world. For the most part, their "regular" programming (i.e. outside of the Halloween season) follows an aesthetic akin to Ed Wood, for a show in which all manner of ghostly, ghoulish, or ghastly topics are discussed. Being a huge fan of the genre, you can expect to hear horror-related conversation, music, and even the odd monologue, in all these episodes - no matter what the time of year - but it's during October, when the annual "Halloween Special" shows are released, that the creep-factor goes up a notch for what the host considers "the most wonderful time of the year" and then regularly produces shows of more than three hours in length, as he and his guests demonstrate an appreciation of all things horror by discussing their favourite monster movies along with other dark subject matter. There's no doubt that Dana Gould loves Halloween (and horror in general) so, if you are of a like-minded disposition and enjoy conversations about horror in all of it's various guises, these are a really fun listen! :-D ;-)

As mentioned previously, you can use any of the podcast hosting services outlined above to access an entire archive of past episodes for "The Dana Gould Hour" and, if need be, you could even search for the seven "Halloween Special" episodes by name (further details below) within those episode listings. However, by way of providing additional information about those shows plus links to listen online, I am including direct links to the show notes and 'MP3' files of all seven episodes, each of which can be streamed directly in your web browser during those times when your Roku player might not be close at hand. To keep things current, I've decided to start with the latest "Halloween Special" episode for 2019 which was released just yesterday. After that, the list continues by going back one year at a time (i.e. in reverse chronological order) as far as the original "Halloweenery!" episode which was where this annual tradition from "The Dana Gould Hour" got started. Of course, you could also scroll straight to the end of the list and start with the first one then steadily work your way back to the present. Likewise, please feel free to jump-in at some point in-between to enjoy any episode of your choosing. They are all, more or less, independent of each other... so go ahead, take your pick, and fill your lug-holes with as much ear "candy" as you can handle - it's what Halloween is all about! ;-) :-D

DISCLAIMER: Before someone pipes-up with a comment about the original "Halloweenery!" show being released on 23rd October 2012, and not 2013 as indicated above, I happen to already be aware of that minor discrepancy... but, for the purposes of this list, decided not to leave a "gap year" in the sequence that might have led to confusion over a (wrongly) perceived "missing" episode.

Meanwhile, in the event you happen to hear mention of a movie, book, or piece of music during one of these "Halloween Special" episodes, there's a library page on "The Dana Gould Hour" website that includes links to most (though not all) of those items, sorted by the episode in which they appear. Using these so-called affiliate links adds nothing to the cost of purchasing these items, but does mean a small kick-back for "The Dana Gould Hour" that will help contribute to the overheads of producing the show. So if you like what you hear, and hope to enjoy more of the same in future, please consider using the links provided to say "thank you" and support the show. I know they'll appreciate it! ;-)

Anyhow, that's all there is for today... but do remember to come back again tomorrow, for my next petrifying podcast recommendation, when I will provide another set of links to a further audio "treat", only next time it'll be a title (or titles) starting with a different random letter of the (horror) alphabet, for 'Day Twenty-Nine' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku". Once again you'll be able to listen through one of the various channels on your Roku streaming media player(s) which were outlined in my 'Special Hallowe'en Blogathon Preview' post, that was published on the last day of September. Meanwhile... please be sure to visit the "Countdown To Hallowe'en" website and show your support for this annual online Hallowe'en extravaganza PLUS don't forget to use the links you find there and check out all the other 'Cryptkeepers' taking part this year. I know they'll appreciate it, if you visit their blogs and share your thoughts on the contribution(s) they've made! ;-) :-D

Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts On Roku - Day 27: BONUS AUDIO "TREATS" (PART ONE) !! ;-) :-D

Greetings, Boils & Ghouls...

... and welcome to 'Day Twenty-Seven' of "Abe R. Rant's Guide To Petrifying Podcasts on Roku" where I'll bring you another Hallowe'en / Horror-related audio series from the plethora of petrifying podcasts that have been released in recent years - and which (like all others before it) you can stream to your TV via the magic of Roku media players - so, let's dim the lights... for more audio frights! :-O

If you read my special hallowe'en blogathon preview - FOUND HERE - published twenty-seven days ago, then you'll know I plan to post one Hallowe'en / Horror related article each day, throughout the month of October, featuring an assortment of links to various podcasts beginning with the same letter of the alphabet on every day of the month. Obviously as we've now reached 'Day Twenty-Seven', and (therefore) already come to the end of the alphabet, that leaves five more days' worth of posts... so, having put my thinking cap on over the past few weeks, I have come-up with some extra bonus audio "treats" to share with you in the remaining days of this month-long blogathon. With thirty-one posts of the most spook-tacular sounding series I can find, between now and the end of the month, you'll have lots of great choice for your listening pleasure as we count the days to Hallowe'en, as well as plenty of spine-tingling thrills & chills 'twixt now and October 31st! ;-) :-)

For my twenty-seventh post in this series I'm going to share the link to just one audio "treat" because, it's the only podcast I came across, when doing my original research form this month-long blogathon, whose title began with a number (as opposed to a letter of the alphabet). Despite this subtle difference it will (once again) come from the general spectrum of horror and the paranormal, with the "trick" (sic) being that the title for this podcast series will begin with the number '22' as evidenced below. Much like in other posts, when I've avoided listing titles starting with the definite article "The" among those podcasts beginning with the letter "T", I deliberately avoided including this (as "twenty-two", rather than "22" used here) under "T" on 'Day Twenty' in this series of articles. Anyway, with that minor caveat now cleared-up, here's my suggestion for another Hallowe'en / Horror-related podcast series... and the first piece of "ear candy" from five days of bonus audio treats coming your way:-

22 Shots Of Moodz And Horror: is a weekly horror series, presented by the 'Horrorphilia' network of podcasts, that has been running for over six years and is still going strong today. Their two main-stay hosts 'JP' and 'Moodz' cover lots of topics, including contemporary horror news, in-depth reviews of films, along with discussions about the genre, as well as horror collecting, personalised segments, and much more. The films discussed vary from typical slashers to unknown Italian Horror gems. Reviews are (usually) always spoiler free and cover aspects like technicality, aesthetic, and overall enjoyment factor. As insane collectors themselves, the hosts are well-versed in horror; 'Moodz' is a fountain of knowledge, which makes for a great co-host, while 'JP' is a fantastic podcaster who knows how to keep things moving, but the chemistry between the two is what makes this podcast series stand-out. Their lengthy, in-depth discussions and opinions on not just movies, but also the culture surrounding them, are engaging, hilarious & well-researched. However while the 4 or 5 hour shows do, generally speaking, flow quite smoothly, the 4+ hour format could put some people off... especially at first! :-/ On the other hand, once you're a fan of the show, even that won't seem like enough! :-D Speaking of which... one fan, with a name of 'hotsake' on Letterbox'd, compiled an "horror challenge" with 400+ titles - based on "22 Shots Of Moodz And Horror" film reviews and lists of favourites - which has some absolute corkers in there. So, if you're in need of a break from all this audio content, you could do worse than browse that list of films by 'hotsake', for some pointers on top horror films to see, before listening to your next podcast episode - assuming there's enough hours in the day! :-O ;-)

Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #346

Hi, everyone !!

As was the case with my 'Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #345' post from last week, as well as my 'Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #344' post of two weeks ago, owing to my having to publish an extra post earlier today - by way of fulfilling my ongoing commitment to this year's "Countdown To Halloween" month-long blogathon - I'm going to have to delay my coverage of all the Roku-specific and/or Roku-related news from the past seven days until I can find the time to catch-up on what's "missing" from this first edition of the current 'Weekly RoundUp' post. As I've done in the past, under such circumstances, I have (at least) managed to provide you with a complete list of all the latest new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store from the past week. With any luck I'll be able to compile these introductory paragraphs of news bit-by-bit, over the course of the next few days, so if you check this post again later in the week, you should find it's been updated! ;-)

Anyway, with no Roku-related news to share with you at this time, I'm (instead) going to focus on the equally important matter of bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with a decent crop of one hundred and four new channels to browse, that should be more than enough to keep you occupied while I assemble the snippets of Roku-related news I found in the last week! :-)

As was the case with a recent post in my month-long blogathon for the 'Countdown To Halloween', published earlier this week, I'm having to leave-out details of the channel store categories for each of the new Roku apps listed below... purely and simply because there wasn't time to research it all and still get both posts published when due. Obviously, whenever I do get some spare time in the coming week, I'll update this post accordingly with all of the "missing" information. Meanwhile, if you need to know where any of the channels are located, you can always click on the link below (and to the left of) each channel icon [aka 'HD Poster' image] to be redirected to the appropriate page from the Roku Web Channel Store that contains details of the precise category in which you will find your chosen app. Like I say... this is only a temporary measure, until I can edit this post and add the relevant info to this article, but (at least) it means you will be able to find the details should you ever need to! ;-) :-)

Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

With twice the number of active links to check out, not just for this week... but each and every post that has been previously published as part of my 'Weekly RoundUp' series over the last six and a half years, there's a *lot* to catch-up on. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all the new Roku channels released between 20th October 2019 and 26th October 2019:-

CALL 2 PRAY WITH JEFF LANE...............................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "RELIGIOUS" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

***FILED UNDER: "MUSIC" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

JACKSONVILLE FL REAL ESTATE....................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "EDUCATIONAL" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, sometime during the week that followed the original release of this channel, the app was updated and the name changed to "Jacksonville FL Real Estate" though, somewhat bizarrely, the URL ending hints at a third (possible) title for this app, with "JAX Virtual Tours TV" being the default name that's now associated with the unique channel store identifier (.../561983/...) for this Roku app. Even though several changes to the name have been made by the developer of this Roku app, the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) assigned to represent it in the channel store has remained unaltered throughout - irrespective of the URL ending used - but, even then, I'm still not sure what qualifies this as an "Educational" channel, regardless of the name given to it! :-O

ASBN SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS.....................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SPORTS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'ASBN Sports Highlights' channel for the Roku platform should not be confused with an earlier app release, which goes by the far shorter name of 'ASBN' in the channel store, that featured as part of my "Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #330" post back in July of this year. Currently both channels remain available for install, but it is unclear as to whether that will remain the case indefinitely. Needless to say, if/when the situation changes (regarding either of the two 'ASBN' channels mentioned) then I will update the relevant blog post(s) accordingly! ;-) :-)

COCINA ON............................COST: FREE (n.b. may require additional fees) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FOOD" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

TELEVISION PREMIUM.....................................COST: £12.99 (MONTHLY) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FILM & TV" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'Television Premium' channel should not be confused with another app release, which goes by the name of 'Tilingo Premium' in the channel store, that is represented by the exact same channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) shown above and was featured previously on this blog as part of my "Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #339" post back in September 2019. In addition to having identical channel icons, both of these "Premium" channels carry the exact same (rather excessively priced) monthly subscription fee of £12.99 per month. Although, without actually signing-up for one (or the other) of the two, it's not really possible to tell (e.g. from the screenshots) precisely what your money will be buying you access to (content-wise) from this streaming service. Given the asking price, I won't be speculating on these apps myself... but, if you're more curious as to what's on offer, I'd advise doing your own research online before committing to a subscription! ;-) :-)

BEST TIKTOK COMPILATIONS.................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "LIFESTYLE" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

TELE PREMIUM...................................................COST: £12.99 (MONTHLY) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FILM & TV" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'Tele Premium' channel should not be confused with another earlier app release, which goes by the name of 'Tilingo Premium' in the channel store, or with the shorter-named 'Tilingo' channel, both of which are represented by the same channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) as shown above and that were featured previously on this blog as part of my "Weekly RoundUp #339" and "Weekly RoundUp #337" posts,  published in early September and late August, respectively. For what it's worth, the basic 'Tilingo' channel has a (slightly) lower monthly subscription fee associated with it (to the tune of £8.99 per month) whereas, for each of the three "Premium" versions, they ask a rather more hefty £12.99 per month... but I'm assuming that's because there are more live streaming options available with those? Since I'm not likely to shell-out for any of these, personally, you'll need to do your own research (or hope that 'Roku Guide' are prepared to swallow the cost of finding-out) but the fact that they feel the need to publish multiple versions of (essentially) the same thing, in the hope of catching someone out somebody's attention, while still charging a (small) fortune just for the privilege of knowing (after the fact) exactly what that money buys you, suggests they're best avoided!

PODCASTS TO LISTED TO..................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SPECIAL INTEREST" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That the error in the naming of this 'Podcasts to listed to' channel stems from the developer and not as the result of any grammatical / spelling mistake on my part. Presumably, the title assigned to this app in the Roku Channel Store ought to have been 'Podcasts To Listen To' as per the name displayed across the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) associated with it (as shown above). However, a quick look at the ending of the URL (i.e. web address) which redirects to the description for this channel in the Roku Web Channel Store online confirms what you're seeing is (most likely) the result of a "typo" on behalf of the developer when first supplying a title for their channel package (.PKG file) during the initial phase of development. Given this apparent slap-dash approach to Roku app developing, I cannot see them correcting the error anytime soon. Although, should it be put right at some point in the future, I will (of course) update this post accordingly as soon as details of any such correction are made known to me. Meanwhile, let's all be thankful that it is not the channel icon (which we must look at in the channel store) that contains the error, and stick with the existing apps for listening to podcasts on the Roku platform - as referenced repeatedly on this blog over the course of the last few weeks! ;-) :-)

SEXY HALLOWEEN COSTUMES......COST: £1.49 (ONE-OFF PAYMENT) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SCREENSAVERS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That the actual name of this new channel is "Sexy Adult Halloween Costumes" but I decided to use a shortened form of the full title (as shown above) mainly for aesthetic reasons (so it would all fit on one line within my blog post) but also to match the one displayed across the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) which does not include the actual full name for this app, either! :-/ The note was then added so that, anyone searching for it by the full name, would be able to find it! ;-) :-)

PREMIUM NUDE STYLE GIRLS........COST: £1.99 (ONE-OFF PAYMENT) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SCREENSAVERS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'Premium Nude Style Girls' channel is not to be confused with another earlier Roku app release, going by the (slightly) shorter name of "Nude Style Girls" in the Roku Channel Store, that featured in my 'Weekly RoundUp #338' post back in August of this year, and shares a virtually identical channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) as the one shown above - save for the (rather minor) alteration to the title displayed across it - but, oddly enough, carried a recurring subscription fee of £0.69 per month… so, it's debatable as to which of the two is the real "premium" version - because, after 3 months, you would have paid more (in total) for the original app than a single one-off payment of £1.99 for this latest one, with further costs each month thereafter! :-O ;-) :-)

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot this week and, while I don't yet have an exact figure for the new apps which were added to the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, at least you have another ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR NEW CHANNELS to keep you occupied while I check the numbers! :-) Meanwhile, for those still clinging-on to their NowTV device(s) for whatever reason, I'm afraid to say there were zero new Roku channels (apps) added to the 'App Store' on NOW TV products... meaning the total number of available apps remains at just forty-one! :-(

Moreover, with no 'TVPlayer', or 'Prime Video', or 'Apple TV' apps (to name but three) among the selection of channels in the NOW TV 'App Store' - despite having dedicated channels for all of them on UK Roku devices - the range of NowTV-branded products continues to fall short of the mark in terms of current streaming needs for many in the UK. So, the best way to increase your choice of streaming services, is to swap any NowTV-branded products you own for genuine Roku-branded media players and gain access to 8,400+ apps of content, from a vast assortment of providers! :-D ;-)

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the one hundred and four "public" channels outlined above... or else the "private" channels "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points over the past six and a half years. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your own Roku channel selection from the vast assortment of apps on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all there's no point installing every app because, when it comes to adding new channels to your Roku devices, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS!

*********************************************

As touched upon previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV devices to carry on in future posts. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned previously) for details of all new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the two hundred & seventy-two preceding weeks, then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. Hopefully, by the time I make my next post, I may even have sorted out another (new) companion Twitter Feed to replace the now suspended: @ukrokuchannels account so there'll still be a presence on the social media platform via which up-to-the-minute info on Roku-related matters (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis!

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
