Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #359

Hi, everyone !!

After a bit of a dip in the number of new channels last week, compared to the significantly larger list of apps from the seven day period prior to that, I'm glad to say things appear to be "on the up" again as we've had ANOTHER PRETTY DECENT CROP OF NEW CHANNEL RELEASES to further boost the Roku Channel Store total. To wit, no less than FIFTY-ONE NEW ROKU APPS have been added to the already vast selection of over eight thousand seven hundred apps which populated the channel store as of this time last week. As if that wasn't enough... there were also several items of streaming-related news for me to report on but, unfortunately, I must postpone my summary of Roku (and other) news from the past week until I can find time to catch up with everything and add the "missing" details to this post - since, being rather pushed for time, I must focus on listing the new Roku apps for you! ;-)

What follows will be a list of all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with a decent crop of fifty-one new channels to browse, that should be more than enough to keep you occupied while I assemble the odd snippets of Roku-related news I found for you during that same time period! :-)

Before I get into the current list of channels, however, I would just like to point-out that the ongoing issue of "missing" reviews from the 'Roku Guide' website appears to have worsened still further, even since my last mention of it on this blog. Throughout the course of last year, they were repeatedly more than seventy-five percent shy in terms of reviews produced versus the actual number of new Roku channels released in any given week. By the end of 2019 there were thousands of "missng" reviews and the situation shows no signs of improving as we go into the new year. Over the last three weeks, since the start of 2020, my 'Weekly RoundUp' posts have seen a total of 216 new channels added. Meanwhile, the number of 'Roku Guide' reviews published in that time has fallen even more short of the mark. Amazingly they have produced only thirty-five new 'Roku Guide' reviews, over the last 3 weeks, and just twelve of those came within the last seven days! :-O Quite how they managed only 12 reviews, with just five from the current week, along with; two more from last week, and; another two from the week before that, plus; three US-only channels, when there were upwards of 51+ new Roku channels released in the past seven days, is beyond me! Unfortunately, this can't be seen as being an exception to the rule... because, digging through their archives, it's clear this has been happening all too frequently. With a minimum of forty-six more "missing" reviews from the past week, they remain more than seventy-five percent short of where they should be and, if this continues, there could be hundreds (if not thousands) more Roku channels with no corresponding independent review for me to provide a link from the 'Weekly RoundUp' posts on my blog. I hope this shortfall is addressed soon because, as mentioned 52 weeks ago, the current situation isn't good for anyone connected to Roku: be they end-users, developers, bloggers like myself, or even Roku - whose platform is the source 'Roku Guide' use to compile their reviews! :-O

Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

With twice the number of active links to check out, not just for this week... but each and every post that has been previously published as part of my 'Weekly RoundUp' series over the last six and three quarter years, there's a *lot* to catch-up on. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all the new Roku channels released between 19th January 2020 and 25th January 2020:-

WATCH PULLING.........................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "XXXXXX" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That this new 'Watch Pulling' channel for the Roku platform requires that you login with the same credentials (i.e. email and password) which were used to register for the streaming service at watchpulling.com online. It's probably worth mentioning that, while registration is free, you will be required to purchase a subscription if you wish to access their streaming catalog or pay to watch an individual event… the costs for which vary immensely. Having browsed their online catalog and looked into the cost of various titles, it seems the most common options available are to purchase a recurring annual subscription at a yearly fee of USD $150.00 for access to the entire catalog for twelve months at a time, or to buy an individual event for USD $40.00 and then be able to watch it forever. Strangely, there is (currently) no warning within the Roku Channel Store description for this app to suggest it "May require additional fees" but, given the aforementioned costs associated with the content, I thought it best to draw your attention to it. Hopefully either the developer, or Roku themselves, can address this… because, as things stand, it appears to be free-to-stream when (in fact) it is not. Meanwhile if you need assistance take a look at the 'Help' section of their website and, if you don't find the answer(s) you're looking for there, you can always put-in a request for further help if you email their customer service team with any questions that remain unanswered.

***FILED UNDER: "XXXXXX" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That the actual name of this new channel is "The United Kingdom screensaver" but I decided to use a shortened form of the full title (as shown above) not only for aesthetic reasons (so it would all fit on one line within my blog post) but also to match the one displayed across the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) which likewise doesn't include the full name of this channel! :-/ The note was then added so anyone searching for the app, by it's full name, would still be able to find it! ;-) :-)

Here you will find apps for 17 NFL teams, along with 12 more that feature NHL teams, plus 4 which coover MLS teams, and an all-encompassing Nascar app. You can even pick your favourite team(s) from across those various pro-sports and place each of them in a separate "Favourites" category for faster access to all the latest videos which are of personal interest to you! :-)

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot this week and, while I don't yet have an exact figure for the new apps which were added to the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, at least you have another FIFTY-ONE NEW CHANNELS to keep you occupied while I check the numbers! :-) Meanwhile, for those still clinging-on to their NowTV device(s) for whatever reason, I'm afraid to say that, much like most weeks, there were zero new Roku channels (apps) added to the 'App Store' on NOW TV products... meaning the total number of available apps remains at just thirty-nine! :-(

Moreover, with no 'TVPlayer', or 'Prime Video', or 'Apple TV' apps (to name but three) among the selection of channels in the NOW TV 'App Store' - despite having dedicated channels for all of them on UK Roku devices - the range of NowTV-branded products continues to fall short of the mark in terms of current streaming needs for many in the UK. So, the best way to increase your choice of streaming services, is to swap any NowTV-branded products you own for genuine Roku-branded media players and gain access to 8,800+ apps of content, from a vast assortment of providers! :-D ;-)

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the fifty-one "public" channels outlined above... or else the "private" channels "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points over the past six and three quarter years. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your own Roku channel selection from the vast assortment of apps on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all there is no point installing every app since, when it comes to adding new streaming channels to your Roku devices, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS! ;-) :-)

*********************************************

As touched upon previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV devices to carry on in future posts. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned previously) for details of all new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the two hundred & eighty-five preceding weeks, then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. Hopefully, by the time I make my next post, I may even have sorted out another (new) companion Twitter Feed to replace the now suspended: @ukrokuchannels account so there'll still be a presence on the social media platform via which up-to-the-minute info on Roku-related matters (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis! :-)

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
