Alucard's Bat-tastic Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku..... - Day #08 - TOXIC TIPPLE THURSDAY (Down In One...)

Welcome back, Boils & Ghouls...

... to 'Day Eight' of "Alucard's Bat-tastic Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku" and to the first instalment of "Toxic Tipple Thursday" where I will be recommending some "batty brews", "creepy cocktails" and (perhaps, even) some "wicked wines" which are especially suited to the Hallowe'en season !!

So, if you're planning to host your own spooky soirée on October 31st, you should make a point of visiting this blog EVERY THURSDAY between now and Hallowe'en for some inspirational ideas on how to keep those ghastly goblets full to the brim throughout your celebrations !!

Anyway... to kick things off, I thought I'd best begin - as I did last year - with what is widely regarded as the "Unofficial Beer of Hallowe'en"... well, that's what it says on the label, anyway !! Appropriately enough, given that this is the "Season of Mischief" - again, see the label (below) - the name of this beer is "Hobgoblin" and there's even a Jack-O-Lantern (i.e. carved pumpkin head) bearing a court jester's hat depicted on the label, atop a stick carried by the 'Hobgoblin' himself. Better yet, the name of the brewery (owned by Marston's PLC) which produces and bottles this rich, smooth tasting beer, brewed with roasted malts & "packed full of mischievous character", is 'Wychwood Brewery' (or should that be "Witch Wood"?!). In fact, even the bottles are embossed with witches on broomsticks, around the base of the bottle neck, which further justifies the presence of this particular beverage at every ghastly gathering put together by any discerning Hallowe'en host or hostess. So, when stocking up on devilish drinks for your wicked wingding, be sure to look out for this when you visit your local off-licence or supermarket:-

As an ADDED BONUS you are all invited to play the "Wheel of Misfortune", during this "Season of Mischief", in which the 'Hobgoblin' (i.e. Marston's PLC / Wychwood Brewery) will be giving away £5,000 in monstrous prizes !! To be in with a chance of winning, visit the official 'Wheel of Misfortune' webpage, VIA THIS LINK, or head over to their Facebook Page: Hobgoblin Beer (Facebook) and give the wheel a twirl... REMEMBER: YOU HAVE TO SPIN IT TO WIN IT !! For the record, the competition closes on 31st January 2016 but PLEASE SEE THE WEBSITE FOR FULL T&C's !!

I should (perhaps) point out that this beer is fairly strong (5.2% ABV) and a 500ml bottle is equivalent to 2.6 UK units of alcohol so PLEASE ENJOY RESPONSIBLY and visit www.drinkaware.co.uk for full guidelines. That said, if you do happen to enjoy it, why not post your thoughts and comments via the "Official" Hobgoblin Twitter Feed: @Hobgoblin_Beer and tell 'em @ukrokuchannels sent you !!

Finally, to round-off this first instalment of "Toxic Tipple Thursday" on 'Day Eight' of the annual 'Countdown To Halloween', I thought I'd better clarify how this ties-in with having a Roku player... and, after careful consideration, I think there's at least two ways you could look at this:-

01. If you watch a Hallowe'en / Horror Movie at the cinema, the chances are you'll have something to eat & drink while you enjoy the film... so, as you stream your Hallowe'en / Horror Movie at home (via your Roku player), why not enjoy a beer with it too ?!!

02. You could always copy the above image and stream it to or via your Roku player using one of the many "Photos & Video" channels in the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store to view it on your TV... perhaps (even) as part of a Hallowe'en Screamsaver (sic) using assorted images from the various Flickr and/or Picasa photo groups that carry Hallowe'en / Horror images - just a thought !!

Anyway, that's all for today... just remember to come back in 24-hours for 'Day Nine' and more Horror / Hallowe'en-themed content, courtesy of "Alucard's Bat-tastic Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku" and for the second instalment of "Fiendish Food Friday" where I will be recommending another "scary starter", "macabre main", "devilish dessert", or perhaps some (ahem) "finger food" which will be well-suited to cater to the ghoulish guests at your spooky soirée this Hallowe'en season! So, if you're planning to host your own ghastly gathering on October 31st, be sure to visit this blog again tomorrow and get another inspirational idea for an tasteless treat (sic) to fuel the zombie horde at your Hallowe'en celebration, as we continue our "Countdown To Hallowe'en" for 2015...

Fangs (once again) for reading !!
