Whether you are a long-time reader of this blog, or have visited these pages (at least) once in the last few months, then (chances are) you will already be aware of the all too familiar scenario whereby so many new Roku channels have been released in any given week, during that period, that I've had no choice but to forego my summary of the Roku-related news simply to have enough time to produce a complete list of new app releases for the seven days preceding my 'Weekly RoundUp' post. The same policy ought to have also been applied on this occasion but, due to some huge announcements from the Roku Newsroom of what can only be described as BIG NEWS FOR UK ROKU FANS... and, when I say "big", I MEAN REALLY BIG NEWS, it just wouldn't have been right to ignore it! :-D
Of course those of you with an ear to the ground or finger on the pulse of all things "Tech" / "Roku" related could be forgiven for thinking I'm referring to the new Roku Smart Soundbar, along with the new Roku Wireless Subwoofer whose imminent release was heralded via press release in mid-week. However, those products are (as usual) only being marketed to Roku purchasers in the United States and, consequently, are (currently) of little or no interest to Roku customers in the UK. Instead, details of the new range of Roku products which *are* headed to the United Kingdom in the last quarter of this year came via another press release that slipped-out (almost un-noticed) on Saturday morning. Here is a photographic clue as to what lies in-store and it's been long overdue, to say the least:-
Hisense Roku TV Models Are Coming To The UK Before The End Of 2019 !!

At the time of writing, aside from myself, it seemed that only 'Variety' had been made aware of the news that Roku were expanding their licensing program into Europe with the launch of 'Roku TV' in the UK - courtesy of a range of models from 'Hisense' - with screen sizes up to 65-inches being made available to Roku customers and would-be Roku purchasers in the United Kingdom for the first time. What 'Variety' neglected to mention was that these new Roku TV™ models from 'Hisense' will also include a handy third-party feature... in the shape of 'Freeview Play' which will (hopefully) bring with it access to the exclusive catch-up services found on that platform. Whether (or not) there's also going to be a separate Roku channel (app) for 'Freeview Play', that can be used with the existing range of standalone Roku players in the UK, remains to be seen... but this is a welcome addition, either way!
Roku CEO Anthony Wood Introduces Hisense Roku TV For The UK At IFA 2019
Roku CEO Anthony Wood shared the news during his keynote speech at IFA, confirming 'Hisense' as the first European Roku TV partner, with the first Hisense Roku TV for Europe being showcased in Roku’s Booth #234 (Hall 26) and the Hisense Booth #201 (Hall 6.2) at the world-leading consumer tech show in Berlin. Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on one... so if someone at Hisense UK, or from their PR company, can reach-out before they're actually released, I'd love to review them! ;-) :-)

Of course, you could always search for it within the 'YouTube' app on your Roku player - assuming that is close at hand! ;-)

UPDATE: Having re-watched the above video of Anthony Wood's IFA 2019 Keynote Speech, there is evidence of both the 'Horror Bites' and 'CBS Catchup' on-demand players being available through Freeview Play on the forthcoming Hisense 'Roku TV' models in the UK. This became apparent to me (at around the 26m 54s mark) when a brief (5 second) glimpse of the user interface revealed content from both catch-up services to be present and accessible on the 'Roku TV' in the presentation video.
When these on-demand players were first launched on 'Freeview Play' back in December 2018, it was announced via the original press release that catch-up and on-demand content from Horror Channel, CBS Reality, CBS Justice, CBS Drama would be made available for up to 30 days after broadcast. It was also said that viewers would be able to access shows from a backwards 'EPG' as well as 'Search' and 'Recommendation' areas across 'Freeview Play' devices. Hopefully the same will apply to the new Hisense 'Roku TV' implementation of these services. To give readers of this blog an idea of what they can expect from the two on-demand players, I'm including a short (20 second) promo video for each one as part of this post. These services will definitely be available on 'Roku TV' in the UK... but what remains unclear (at this stage) is whether there will be additional Roku channels (apps) created that will extend these on-demand players to existing standalone Roku models in UK.
With Horror Bites, you can get your teeth into lots of spooky series and classic sci-fi which have been broadcast by 'The Horror Channel' - the UK’s number one destination for horror movies, supernatural series and programmes about the people who make them - and I, for one, am very happy about this!
With CBS Catchup, expect to see a variety of content from CBS Reality, CBS Drama CBS Action, who (collectively) offer a wide variety of drama, reality and entertainment shows. The addition of these on-demand players will mean that the 'Roku TV' platform in the United Kingdom will have access to even more catch-up channels with no subscription. Content from both 'Horror Bites' and 'CBS Catchup Channels UK' will be joining existing on-demand video from BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, My5, TVPlayer, UKTV Play, and more... to further extend the Roku UK on-demand line up! :-)
Meanwhile... back to business with details of all the new releases (apps-wise) for UK Roku devices and, after the record level of new Roku channels (apps) added to the Roku platform last week, I'm pleased to report that despite not breaking any records on this occasion we have (nevertheless) been treated to YET ANOTHER DECENT CROP OF NEW RELEASES to further boost the UK Channel Store total. To wit, ONE HUNDRED AND NINETEEN NEW ROKU APPS have been added to the already vast selection of over seven thousand eight hundred apps which populated the Roku Channel Store as of this time last week. That means we've now been blessed with just over three thousand six hundred new apps, in a period of only thirty-six weeks, any of which UK Roku owners can add to the selection of apps that are installed on their device(s). So, assuming you're not still reeling from the shock of 'Roku TV' coming to the United Kingdom later this year - which (itself) is a lot to take in - let's now focus on listing all of those one hundred and nineteen new Roku apps for you! ;-) :-)
That said, before I get into the current list of channels, I would just like to point-out that the ongoing issue of "missing" reviews from the 'Roku Guide' website appears to have worsened (yet again) since my previous article for this blog. Over the last thirty-six weeks, my 'Weekly RoundUp' posts have seen a total of 3,611 new channels added. Meanwhile, the number of 'Roku Guide' reviews being published during that time has continued to fall short of the mark. Quite how they managed to only produce 26 reviews, with just three from the current week; five more from last week, and; six that featured in my 'Weekly RoundUp #337' post from two weeks ago; along with twelve US-only apps, when there were upwards of 120+ new Roku channels released in the past seven days, is beyond me! Unfortunately, this cannot be seen as being an exception to the rule... because, digging through their archives, it soon becomes clear that this has been happening all too frequently. Looking at all of the articles they have published since the start of the year, there has been a total of only 969 new reviews added to their website. With a minimum of one hundred and sixteen "missing" reviews from the last week they remain more than seventy percent short of where they should be and, if this continues, there could be hundreds (if not thousands) more Roku channels with no corresponding independent review for me to provide a link from each of the 'Weekly RoundUp' posts on my blog. I hope this shortfall is addressed soon because, as mentioned 32 weeks ago, the current situation isn't good for anyone connected to Roku: be they end-users, developers, bloggers like myself, or even Roku - whose platform provides the source of all 'Roku Guide' reviews! :-O
Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while this new 'Bar Room Babes' channel for Roku devices can be found within the 'Just Added' category (i.e. genre) of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store, no permanent category / genre had (at the time of writing) been assigned to the channel in the UK. If I somehow succeed in bringing this matter to the attention of the developer / content provider, I'd expect to see this app given a permanent "home" under 'Film & TV' or 'Special Interest' in the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store within a few weeks of so-doing. In the meantime, if you don't wish to trawl through the 'Just Added' category of the channel store to find it, I suggest you take advantage of the built-in Roku 'Search' feature to locate and install it. Using this method, you probably won't even need to finish typing the words "Bar Room" before seeing the channel listed among the 'Search Results' displayed on the right-hand side of your television screen. Failure to assign a permanent channel store category for the UK within the next week or two (however) would mean that, once it ceases to be part of the 'Just Added' category, it would no longer be listed in the channel store. So, if you think you're likely to want this channel, my advice would be to install it by mid-September (at the latest) because, if the necessary edits are not made to the Roku channel package (.PKG file) by that time, you will not see it there afterwards. Needless to say, if/when the channel is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. As mentioned above I'd expect this to be the 'Film & TV' or 'Special Interest' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.
