Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #347

Hi, everyone !!

With over one hundred new channels last week, you might expect the numbers to be lower this time and, though it is a significant reduction, we've still had A DECENT CROP OF NEW CHANNELS to further boost the UK Channel Store total. To wit, no less than FIFTY-NINE NEW ROKU APPS have been added to the already vast selection of over eight thousand four hundred apps which populated the channel store as of this time last week. That means we have now been blessed with a little under four thousand four hundred new apps, during a period of just forty-four weeks, any of which UK Roku owners can add to the individual selection of apps that are installed on their device(s). As if that wasn't enough... there were also several items of streaming-related news for me to report on but, as was the case for much of last month I must (again) postpone my summary of Roku (and other) news from the past week until I can find time to catch up with everything and add the "missing" details to this post - since, right now, I must (instead) focus on listing all these new Roku apps for you! ;-) :-)

Anyway, with no Roku-related news to share with you at this time, I'm (instead) going to focus on the equally important matter of bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with a decent crop of fifty-nine new channels to browse, that should be more than enough to keep you occupied while I assemble the odd snippets of Roku-related news I found for you in the last week! :-)

Before I get into the current list of channels, however, I would just like to point-out that the ongoing issue of "missing" reviews from the 'Roku Guide' website appears to have worsened (yet again) since my last mention of it on this blog. Over the last forty-four weeks, my 'Weekly RoundUp' posts have seen a total of 4,379 new channels added. Meanwhile, the number of 'Roku Guide' reviews being published during that time has continued to fall short of the mark. Amazingly, this was the first time in three weeks that the 'Roku Guide' website has published any new reviews at all... since no article(s) were published to correspond with either my 'Weekly RoundUp #345' or 'Weekly RoundUp #346' posts. Even though I managed to list 232 new Roku channels (apps) during that time - despite also having a vastly increased workload, due to my commitment to the 'Countdown To Halloween' 2019 blogathon - there were only thirteen new 'Roku Guide' reviews published, and those all came within the last seven days! :-O Quite how they managed to produce only 13 reviews, with just three from the current week; three more from last week, and; two from the week before that, plus; one that was still "missing" from three weeks ago, along with; four US-only channels, when there were upwards of 59+ new Roku channels released in the past seven days, is beyond me! Unfortunately, this can't be seen as being an exception to the rule... because, digging through their archives, it soon becomes clear this has been happening all too frequently. Looking at all of the articles they've published since the start of the year, there has been a total of only 1,058 new reviews added to their website. So, with a minimum of fifty-six more "missing" reviews from the past week, they're now more than seventy-five percent short of where they should be and, if this continues, there could be hundreds (if not thousands) more Roku channels with no corresponding independent review for me to provide a link from each of the 'Weekly RoundUp' posts on my blog. I hope this shortfall is addressed soon because, as mentioned 40 weeks ago, the current situation isn't good for anyone connected to Roku: be they end-users, developers, bloggers like myself, or even Roku - whose platform is the source 'Roku Guide' use to compile their reviews! :-O

Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

With twice the number of active links to check out, not just for this week... but each and every post that has been previously published as part of my 'Weekly RoundUp' series over the last six and a half years, there's a *lot* to catch-up on. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all the new Roku channels released between 27th October 2019 and 2nd November 2019:-

Likewise, nor should it be mistaken for another Roku app, going by the name of 'Kids Learning Videos TV' in the channel store, that was developed by 'Kids Learning Videos', released in mid-September of this year and featured (around that time) in my "Weekly RoundUp #341" post. All three remain available for install via the Roku Channel Store, and each is FREE-TO-ADD and FREE-TO-STREAM on your Roku device(s), so it should be easy for anyone interested in this type of kids programming to try them all before settling on whichever one of these apps meets their individual preferences and/or the needs of their child(ren)! ;-) :-D

TIK TOKS (TIC TOK)...................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "COMEDY" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'Tik Toks' channel, with a "space" between the words "Tik" and "Toks" in the title, should not be confused with an earlier Roku app, i.e. the (very) similarly-named 'TikToks' channel (minus the space), which featured in my "Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #342" post, published towards the end of September this year. Even the icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) used for the two channels is identical, save for the developer's logo being removed from this current clone of that original Roku app. If you hadn't already guessed, this looks like another attempt to further "spam" the channel store with multiple versions of the same app by 'TV.AllSuper.Info', who appear to still be getting away with this sort of sly, under-handed, shameless self-promotion technique. We can but hope that Roku will (some day) put an end to this sort of nonsense… but, until they do, I'd suggest ignoring any channel(s) for which this developer has been credited (in the channel store description) to send a message that we (as Roku users) are not prepared to tolerate their antics. Other than continuing to call them on their seemingly 'BS' approach to Roku app development, I'm not sure what else can be done - so, it's up to the developer (or Roku themselves) to put a stop to all this! :-/ :-|

EXPOSURE ON DEMAND TV....................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FILM & TV" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

***FILED UNDER: "SPECIAL INTEREST" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

KPLE (KPLE TV)...........................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "RELIGIOUS" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

NEW HAPPY HALLOWEEN................COST: £0.69 (ONE-OFF PAYMENT) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SCREENSAVERS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That the actual name which was assigned by the developer, to represent this latest app in the Roku Channel Store, is 'New Happy Halloween Collection' but the format chosen meant it would have been too long for me to maintain the aesthetic look & feel of this 'Weekly RoundUp' post. So, to remain in keeping with all those articles which came before it, I took the decision to employ a shortened form of the title, i.e. "New Happy Halloween" as shown above, while still mentioning the original title within the article so that anyone searching for it by name (within this blog) would still be able to find the details (link to an official description, pricing info, etc.) as part of this post! ;-) :-D

PLAYBOOK NETWORK..............................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "NEWS & WEATHER" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

MOVIE GUIDE - FIND FREE MOVIES......................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FILM & TV" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, according to the description for this 'Movie Guide - Find Free Movies' app in the Roku Channel Store, it's "...your Roku guide to quickly find new and free movies across all Major Roku apps and channels" - sounds pretty handy, right? However, once they start name-dropping a few of the Roku channels (apps) whose content they are using to produce their "guide", it soon becomes clear that this will be about as much use as a chocolate fireguard to Roku customers in the UK. First, in respect of "free" films and TV shows, they provide results for 'Tubi TV' and 'Crackle' - both long since withdrawn from the channel store in the United Kingdom - along with 'The Roku Channel' that is not currently (and nor has it ever been) available in the Roku UK Channel Store. So, not much use for finding content that is free-to-stream in the UK. They then give a shout-out to some "premium" subscription-based channels whose content also features in their search results. Unfortunately, as was the case for 'The Roku Channel', having films and TV shows from 'Hulu' highlighted for streaming is equally pointless from an UK perspective... since, again, 'Hulu' is not currently (nor has it ever been) available in the Roku UK Channel Store. That brings us to 'Netflix' plus 'Prime Video' and, despite having UK equivalents for both these channels (apps) on the Roku platform, the results from this 'Movie Guide - Find Free Movies' app are tied to what is available on those services in the U.S. - not much good unless you're looking for something to watch six months' down the line! :-/ :-| If there was an UK equivalent of this app, which included content specific to the United Kingdom, then it might be worth a quick look... but, all things considered, I really don't see that it offers much (to Roku users in any region) beyond what is already available via the built-in Roku cross-platform 'Search' feature, or could be found just as easily using one of the apps for mobile phones / tablets that do the same! ;-)

GYMRA FITNESS TV...................................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FITNESS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- This latest 'GymRa Fitness TV' channel (developed by Xambo International) should not be confused with an earlier Roku app, the similarly-named 'GymRa TV' (by Glewed TV) from the channel store, which featured in my "Weekly RoundUp #336" post back in August of this year. Nor should it be mistaken for the 'GymRa' channel (developed by Future Today Inc.) that was included in my "Weekly RoundUp #167" post from May 2016. All three channels remain available for install via the Roku Channel Store, and each is both FREE-TO-ADD and FREE-TO-STREAM on your Roku device(s), so it should be easy for anyone interested in this type of fitness regime to try them before settling on whichever one meets their individual needs and/or preferences! ;-) :-D

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.....................COST: £0.69 (ONE-OFF PAYMENT) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "SCREENSAVERS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That the actual name which was assigned by the developer, to represent this latest app in the Roku Channel Store, is 'Happy Thanksgiving Screensaver' but the format chosen meant it would have been too long for me to maintain the aesthetic look & feel of this 'Weekly RoundUp' post. So, to remain in keeping with all those articles which came before it, I took the decision to employ a shortened form of the title, i.e. "Happy Thanksgiving" as shown above, while still mentioning the original title within the article so that anyone searching for it by name (within this blog) would still be able to find the details (link to an official description, pricing info, etc.) as part of this post! ;-) :-D

***FILED UNDER: "RELIGIOUS" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot this week and, while I don't yet have an exact figure for the new apps which were added to the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, at least you have another FIFTY-NINE NEW CHANNELS to keep you occupied while I check the numbers! :-) Meanwhile, for those still clinging-on to their NowTV device(s) for whatever reason, I'm afraid to say there were zero new Roku channels (apps) added to the 'App Store' on NOW TV products... meaning the total number of available apps remains at just forty-one! :-(

Moreover, with no 'TVPlayer', or 'Prime Video', or 'Apple TV' apps (to name but three) among the selection of channels in the NOW TV 'App Store' - despite having dedicated channels for all of them on UK Roku devices - the range of NowTV-branded products continues to fall short of the mark in terms of current streaming needs for many in the UK. So, the best way to increase your choice of streaming services, is to swap any NowTV-branded products you own for genuine Roku-branded media players and gain access to 8,400+ apps of content, from a vast assortment of providers! :-D ;-)

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the fifty-nine "public" channels outlined above... or else the "private" channels "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points over the past six and a half years. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your own Roku channel selection from the vast assortment of apps on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all there's no point installing every app because, when it comes to adding new channels to your Roku devices, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS!

*********************************************

As touched upon previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV devices to carry on in future posts. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned previously) for details of all new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the two hundred & seventy-three preceding weeks, then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. Hopefully, by the time I make my next post, I may even have sorted out another (new) companion Twitter Feed to replace the now suspended: @ukrokuchannels account so there'll still be a presence on the social media platform via which up-to-the-minute info on Roku-related matters (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis!

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
