A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku - Day #10 REALITY, OR PARANORMAL REALITY? YOU DECIDE !!

Another day dawns for us all and, with it, the 2013 Countdown To Hallowe'en continues... and so too does my month-long blogathon "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku". If you're new to this blog, we're now on our tenth installment in this series, which began with details of a Hallowe'en ScreamSaver, complete with spooky soundtrack, followed by a Roku channel dedicated to Vintage Horror Classics, then some Hallowe'en "How-To" videos, a Roku channel for fans of the paranormal and then another for devotees of independent horror. After that came a channel dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activities plus a further selection of Cult Films, Sci-Fi Classics & Vintage Horror. Since then, we've provided details of a Roku channel brimming with creepy cocktail suggestions and another channel with a selection of classic flicks to boost your Hallowe'en / Horror movie choices. Today, we're giving you details of a channel that mixes paranormal reality tv shows with powerful documentaries, mysteries, conspiracy theories, UFO's and plenty more besides, to help broaden the spectrum of Hallowe'en entertainment on your Roku ahead of October 31st !!







It may surprise you to learn that this paranormal reality-based Roku channel IS NOT part of the "Special Interest" genre (i.e. category) BUT, instead, can be found in the "Film & TV" genre of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store (or, "Movies & TV", for those of you in the USA). Then again, since even the content for this channel is, by it's very nature, somewhat out-of-the-ordinary... you may not find that surprising, at all !! Generally speaking, 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' provides an opportunity to sample many of the movies, programmes and tv series found in the paid version of the channel, 'Paranormal Reality TV - HD Zone', which requires a monthly subscription of £3.99. Much more than just a preview, however, you can expect to see full-length movies and whole episodes of many television series included with 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone'. Perhaps best of all, is that these are ALL COMPLETELY FREE TO WATCH although the range of choice is limited in comparison with the subscription-based 'Paranormal Reality TV - HD Zone', as you might expect.


So what can you expect to find, content-wise, on the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel? Well, believe it or not, there's quite a lot on offer considering this channel is both FREE-TO-ADD and FREE-TO-WATCH on your Roku players. Meanwhile, if you would like to connect with the "Paranormal Reality TV - HD Zone" channel, you can do so via their Twitter Feed: @ParanormalRoku although, from my own recent experience, they do not appear to be prolific "tweeters", having made a GRAND TOTAL of fifty-five tweets thus far, since July 2011. In fact, their most "recent" activity was just over a month ago, on 7th September 2013, so don't expect an immediate response from them via that particular social media approach. Perhaps a better solution would be to use the CONTACT FORM on their official website or, if you just want to get social, then do so via their Facebook Page: Paranormal Reality TV (Facebook).


It may further interest you to know that the "Paranormal Reality TV - HD Zone" channel was developed for Roku by Axiomy.com whose rather minimalist website can be viewed HERE. Still, it does include their email address if you happen to be looking for help with the development, hosting and publishing of your TV channel or radio station on Roku, Google TV, Android or Ipad.

PLEASE NOTE:- Towards the end of August 2013, many Roku owners were reporting that they had experienced some issues with video playback on the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel. In response to this, they posted the following statement via their Facebook page on 24th August:-

We have identified the playback issue and it should only affect the Free Zone channel. It is not on our end. The problem is with the ad-roll company app. When there is no ad to play it kicks back the the main Roku screen. This should not happen. We are in contact with the ad company about the issue and hopefully it will be fixed soon. The subscription HD Zone is working correctly with no playback issues.

 They followed this up, two days later, with another statement (again, via Facebook) on 26th August:-

We have now restored service to the Free Zone app. Please email us if you have any more issue with service. Thank you.

However, six weeks on from their announcement that they had "restored service" to the Free Zone app, many people are STILL HAVING PROBLEMS with video playback for the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel and, unfortunately, suffering THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS where, no matter which video you try to play, you are immediately "kicked back" to the Roku Home Screen.


Our advice, if you are experiencing this particular problem with the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel, is for you to send a direct message to the channel using the CONTACT FORM on their Official Website. If the problem persists, perhaps someone at 'Paranormal Reality TV' can arrange for Roku owners to get FREE ACCESS to the subscription based 'Paranormal Reality TV - HD Zone' until the problem is completely resolved with 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' ?!!

Putting aside any potential video playback problems for a moment, those of you who might wish to add this channel to the Hallowe'en-themed entertainment on your Roku player(s) but are, perhaps, unable to access the Channel Store on your device at this precise moment... can also take care of things by simply LOGGING-IN to your Online Roku Account, scrolling down to the 'Manage Account' section, and using the "Add a Private Channel" option. That way, when you do have access to your Roku player, the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel will be there ready for you to watch whenever you so choose (barring any playback issues, of course) !! All you must do to achieve this, is type the access code under "Add a Private Channel" and click the blue 'Add Channel' button:-

Anyway, that's pretty much all there is to it, except to point out the 'Paranormal Reality TV - Free Zone' channel has been given an average score of "3.5 out of 5" from 278 ratings (so far) in the channel store description from the Official Roku Website. That statistic alone should be reason enough to give this a try, never mind that ALL FEATURED VIDEOS ARE FREE TO WATCH too !!

A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku - Day #9 POP FLIX PICKS... FOR YOUR VINTAGE HORROR FIX !!

There's now just 22 days remaining in the Countdown To Hallowe'en 2013 which must mean that we have now reached day nine of "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku", my month-long blogathon, which culminates on 31st October 2013. In case you missed the previous instalments, this series of posts began with details of a Hallowe'en ScreamSaver, complete with a spooky soundtrack, followed by a Roku channel dedicated to Vintage Horror Classics, then some Hallowe'en "How-To" videos, a Roku channel for fans of the paranormal and another for devotees of independent horror. After that came a channel dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activities plus another selection of Cult Films, Sci-Fi Classics & Vintage Horror to boost the Hallowe'en / Horror movie choices for all you Roku film fans out there. Yesterday, we continued with Hallowe'en party planning and details of a Roku channel brimming with creepy cocktail suggestions to keep your spooky soirée, plus your pick of the poisons, well & truly flowing. So, today, we're giving you a chance to sit back & relax, with your most luscious Hallowe'en libation, and fully enjoy your pick of the horror flicks from another of our Hallowe'en / Horror-related Roku channel highlights !!






It probably comes as no surprise to you, that this classic movie-based Roku channel can be found in the "Film & TV" genre (i.e. category) of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store (or, "Movies & TV", for those of you in the USA). Generally speaking, 'Pop Flix Classic Movies' provides an assortment of hundreds of movie classics ranging from Action to Comedy, Cult Classics to Drama, Vintage Horror to  Martial Arts, plus Romance, Thrillers & Westerns. As such, you can expect to see anything from "Tarzan The Fearless" to "Attack Of The Giant Leeches" or the horror classic, "Night Of The Living Dead". Perhaps best of all, is that these movies are ALL COMPLETELY FREE TO WATCH although the hidden "cost" of this is that all of the featured movies are ad-supported.


Obviously, having multiple genres to choose from in the main menu of the 'Pop Flix Classic Movies' channel means that not all of the included content is relevant to this post. As I mentioned before, there are other loosely relevant genres included (such as Cult Classics and Thriller, or perhaps even Drama) in which you might find some "Pop Flix" classic movie that grabs you but, sticking to the general theme of Hallowe'en, the (current) selection that can be found in the "Horror" category of the 'Pop Flix Classic Movies' channel on UK Roku player (incl. IMDB links) is as follows:-




My own PICK OF THE BUNCH, if perhaps slightly obvious to most true horror fans out there, WOULD HAVE TO BE... George A. Romero's "Night Of The Living Dead", closely followed by William Castle's "House On Haunted Hill" and Roger Corman's "A Bucket Of Blood". Other than that, I'd also recommend Eugenio Martin's "Horror Express" and Maxwell Shane's "Fear In The Night", plus Giulio Questi's "Death Laid An Egg" and Francis Ford Coppola's "Dementia 13" as worthy of watching, in terms of classic vintage horror. On the other end of the scale, in my opinion, THE ONE'S TO AVOID ARE... the likes of Roberto Bianchi Montero's "Island Monster" and "Bela Lugosi Meets A Brooklyn Gorilla" by William Beaudine, as well as "Isle Of The Snake People" by Juan Ibanez & Jack Hill, plus Roger Corman's "Creature From The Haunted Sea" which pales in comparison to his other work here. Still, love them or loathe them, this classic vintage horror content will ensure that you have plenty of ways to pass the time between my daily doses of Roku-related Hallowe'en horror in "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku" while, at the same time, helping to satisfy your appetite for vintage horror movies in the build-up to Hallowe'en !!


According to the channel description for the 'Pop Flix Classic Movies' channel, taken from the Official Roku Website, the channel was developed for Roku by a company called adRise. If that name happens to sound familiar to you, it could be because that company is also responsible for the development of the 'World Worth Watching' channel on Roku player, as featured on day seven in this series of posts, not to mention the MANY OTHER FAMILIAR CHANNELS they have created for Roku channel store(s) IN ALL REGIONS. Should you need to contact the developer, you can do so via their Twitter Feed: @ad_Rise or else, get social through: adRise (Facebook). A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku - Day #8 HEY, BARTENDER... IT'S TIME TO POUR THE POISON !!




Welcome, once again... Boils & Ghouls !!


As you are doubtless now accustomed, the 2013 Countdown To Hallowe'en continues and so too does my month-long blogathon "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku". We're now on our eighth installment in this series of posts which began with details of a Hallowe'en ScreamSaver, complete with a spooky soundtrack, followed by a Roku channel dedicated to Vintage Horror Classics, then some Hallowe'en "How-To" videos, a Roku channel for fans of the paranormal and another for devotees of independent horror. After that came a channel dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activities plus another selection of Cult Films, Sci-Fi Classics & Vintage Horror to boost the Hallowe'en / Horror movie choices for all you Roku film fans out there. Today, we're getting back to the celebratory side of things with another Roku channel to help get your Hallowe'en party started, by providing some instructional videos for a range of seasonal cocktails to bestow upon your guests when they arrive at your spooky soirée on the evening of October 31st !!






In case you were not already aware, this libation-based Roku channel can be found in the "Food" genre (i.e. category) of the Roku Channel Store in all regions. Generally speaking, 'Drinks [by iFood.tv]' provides a collection of over 4,000 instructional videos containing recipes for all kinds of drinks from Cocktails to Smoothies, Party Shots, Teas, Ethnic Drinks, Holiday Specials & more. These "How-To" style videos can be used to improve your mixing and shaking skills to such a frighteningly good level, it could leave your Hallowe'en party guests in complete shock and awe, as they marvel at your new-found bartending talents !!


Obviously, having multiple genres to choose from (shown as "Categories"in the main menu) as part of the 'Drinks [by iFood.tv]' Roku channel means not all of the included content is relevant to this post. However, the inclusion of a 'Search' function (found under "Categories" in the main menu) means that it is very easy to whittle down the list, by sticking to our general theme, and enter the word "Halloween" as a search term, to obtain a set of results that are specific to our requirements.


Now, ordinarily, you'd use an original Roku remote to enter text via the on-screen keyboard shown:-

Although, if you've tried that method previously, you'll know that it can be a bit fiddly (not to mention overly-cumbersome) to "type" your search term  into the required field. For this reason, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you enter the required text USING THE FREE ROKU REMOTE APP for either iOS (if you have an Apple mobile device) or Android, since the keyboard for touch-screen mobile devices are (generally) far easier to use than the directional buttons on a remote control when it comes to typing. If you have yet to install the Roku app on your mobile device, you can download them easily by using the relevant link(s) below:- 


If you have an Apple mobile device (running iOS 4.3 or later)...



Or, for those of you with Android mobile devices (running Android 2.1 and up)...



Even if you don't intend using the app(s) with this particular channel, I would urge you to go ahead and download them anyway because of the increased functionality they offer over the original Roku remote(s). You could also find that the app makes using your Roku streaming media player a far easier (yes, that is possible) and, not to mention, all together more enjoyable experience, too !!


Anyway once you've entered the search term, "Halloween", and then hit the on-screen 'Search' button to perform the task, you should then see an extra line appear at the top of the main menu (above where the "Categories" are listed) which says, "Searched Results For. Halloween". Beneath this will be a list of instructional videos for drinks recipes that will be suitable for serving at any Hallowe'en party (assuming your guests meet the minimum legal requirements for consuming alcohol, of course!). As of the date of this post, searching for "Halloween" drinks recipes via the 'Drinks [by iFood.tv]' channel gave a total of nineteen Hallowe'en Cocktail videos to choose from, as follows:-

  • Hallowe'en Cocktail - The Vampire Bite

    A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku - Day #7 A World of HORROR is a WORLD WORTH WATCHING !!




    Welcome back, Boils & Ghouls !!


    We now have just 24 days remaining in the Countdown To Hallowe'en 2013 which must mean that we have now reached day seven of "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku", my month-long blogathon, which culminates on 31st October 2013. In case you missed the previous instalments, this series of posts began with details of a Hallowe'en ScreamSaver, complete with a spooky soundtrack, followed by a Roku channel dedicated to Vintage Horror Classics, then some Hallowe'en "How-To" videos, a Roku channel for fans of the paranormal and another for devotees of independent horror. After that came a channel dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activities. Today, we continue with a Roku channel offering a small selection of Cult Films, Sci-Fi Classics and Vintage Horror, among the multiple genres (i.e. categories) featured, to boost the Hallowe'en / Horror movie choices for all you Roku film fans out there looking for an extra fright or two to keep the adrenaline pumping between now and October 31st !!






    In case you were not already aware, this movie-based Roku channel can be found in the "Film & TV" genre (i.e. category) of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store (or, under "Movies & TV", for those of you in the USA). Generally speaking, 'World Worth Watching' provides an assortment of movies ranging from Documentaries, to Cult Classics & Independent Movies. It is described as "a meticulously assembled collection", across multiple genres, of "the ultimate in classic & indie film entertainment". Perhaps best of all, is that these movies are ALL COMPLETELY FREE TO WATCH when choosing to view them via the ad-supported option. However, you are also given the choice to pay & watch individual movies on an entirely ad-free basis, if you want that full, uninterrupted movie-watching experience. The cost of the ad-free service is $0.99 per movie but, for the sake of sitting through a few commercials, I think you're better off going down the ad-supported route and maybe spending your money on some popcorn to eat while you watch any, or all, of the film(s) for FREE !! 


    Obviously, having multiple genres to choose from in the main menu of the 'World Worth Watching' movie channel means that not all of the included content is relevant to this post. As I mentioned before, there are other loosely relevant genres included (such as Sci-Fi, Cult and Mystery, or perhaps Crime, Film Noir or even Comedy) in which you might find something "Worth Watching" but, sticking to the general theme of Hallowe'en, the (current) selection that can be found in the "Horror" category of the 'World Worth Watching' movie channel on UK Roku player (incl.     A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku - Day #6 WHAT HAS AN ALIEN IN EVERY BITE?... TOPIC: UFO !!!




    Welcome back, Boils & Ghouls !!



    After a brief interlude for my regular 'Weekly RoundUp' of ALL the LATEST ADDITIONS to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store, my focus has again returned to the Countdown To Hallowe'en for 2013 and my month-long blogathon, "A MummyVision Guide To Hallowe'en On Roku", is all set to continue with another Hallowe'en / Horror-themed channel that you can add to your Roku player(s). We're now on our sixth installment in this series of posts which began with details of a Hallowe'en ScreamSaver, complete with a spooky soundtrack, followed by a Roku channel dedicated to Vintage Horror Classics, then some Hallowe'en "How-To" videos, a Roku channel for fans of the paranormal and another for devotees of independent horror. Today, we continue with a Roku channel dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activities. So if you happen to have a keen interest in, or are curious about, the existence of extra-terrestrial lifeforms and/or UFO's plus if you enjoy hearing eye-witness accounts of such matters, based on real-life experiences, then this channel is very likely to appeal to you. Sadly there is no "smooth milk choc-o-late for your delight" to go with it, so it looks like you'll have to go out and "trick-or-treat" a few of your neighbours if you want any !!






    As you might expect from the name, this extra-terrestrial / UFO-related activity based Roku channel can be found in the "Special Interest" genre (i.e. category) of the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store. Bizarrely, the public channel has yet to be added to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store... BUT it can still be added to UK Roku players as a private channel, using the ACCESS CODE shown in my previous post on the channel FOUND HERE. Generally speaking, 'Topic: UFO' is an Internet TV Talk Show and Open Forum, dedicated to the open discussion of UFO's and UFO-related activity. The content selection offered by the 'Topic: UFO' channel, is (currently) comprised of fifty-two videos divided into three separate series, as follows:-


    • Season 1 - includes 16 'Topic: UFO' videos (episode nos. 01-16, inclusive)
    • Season 2 - includes 26 'Topic: UFO' videos (episode nos. 17-42, inclusive)
    • Season 3 - includes 10 'Topic: UFO' videos (episode nos. 43-52, inclusive)


    PLEASE NOTE:- Season 3 is currently ongoing and, therefore, incomplete. You can expect new content to be added fairly frequently for this channel, although it's probably only worth looking on a weekly basis (rather than daily) to check for the latest additions.
