Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #267

Hi, everyone !!

If you happen to follow the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, then you will already be aware that it has been another quiet week, in terms of Roku-related news... but, ironically, the one item of note was when Twitter decided (sometime on Wednesday evening) that they were going to suspend my Twitter account for allegedly violating their "Counterfeit Goods Policy" which, to the best of my knowledge, is something of which I have never been guilty. Having read through the information contained in that article, and noted that it pertained to "the sale or promotion of sale of counterfeit goods" on the Twitter platform, I decided to appeal against the suspension on Thursday (via email) based upon the fact that I have never "sold" anything through either my blog, or social media, and that (therefore) my Twitter account must have been suspended in error. Despite making it quite clear that I had never sold anything... and that any "promotion" done, via either my Twitter account or my blog, was made in support of genuine Roku-branded products that were offered for sale in the UK by their manufacturer (i.e. Roku) or recognised UK retailers (i.e. Amazon, Argos, Currys, Tesco, etc, etc.) and not by myself, I got a followup message (on Friday) stating that they had reviewed my appeal and would not be reinstating my account. They concluded by saying: "Your account has been permanently suspended and will not be restored", so it seems there is little point appealing any further. Hopefully, I'll be able to set-up another account soon... but, for now at least, if you need to get in touch with me it's probably best to leave a comment at the end of this post. Obviously, I will update you all (as to the details of my new account) once everything has been set-up and (hopefully) everyone who "Followed" the original account will do the same for my new one - as I'd hate to think the last five years of building a following on social media have all been for nothing! What really gets me is how they don't even tell you which tweet (or tweets) were causing an issue and give you the opportunity to explain and/or delete them (if need be) but, instead, just implement this seemingly pointless "appeals" process before shutting-down your account without stating why! :-/
Anyway, with no other major Roku-related (or Roku-specific) news to share with you this week, I'm now going to turn my attention to bringing you details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published! :-)

Firstly, though, I'd just like to mention (on a not entirely un-related note) that I have now added links to some (though, still not all) of the 'Roku Guide' reviews that were previously "missing" for many of the new Roku channels released in the last few weeks... so, if you'd like to see an independent appraisal of those, be sure to check-out my post from last week (see link above), which (itself) contains a link to the previous week's post (and so-on, and so-forth), for details of where to find them. Unfortunately, there are (again) more "missing" links to the 'Roku Guide' reviews for almost fifty per cent of the channels published during the last seven days... which means, much like many other posts from recent months, I'm going to have to leave it for each of you to (once more) access those details on your own. As of two months ago, you can choose to do that either via the built-in channel store on your Roku device(s)... or else, by following the links provided in each post to the relevant channel description(s) from the Roku Web Channel Store. Meanwhile, once the "missing" reviews have been published by 'Roku Guide', I will (as I have done previously) ensure that I add the relevant links to each post. Apologies (as always) for any inconvenience that may be caused by the absence of active links to an independent review for so many of these new apps but, like I say, it was entirely out of my hands. Hopefully they will catch-up on the ones they missed sometime in the coming week!?! ;-) :-)

Still, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

With twice the number of active links to check out, not just for this week... but each and every post that has been previously published as part of my 'Weekly RoundUp' series over the last five years, there's a *lot* of reading to catch-up on. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all new Roku channels released between 15th April 2018 and 21st April 2018:-

THE CLASSIC COMEDY NETWORK INT...........................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "COMEDY" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, because "The Classic Comedy Network Int" channel for Roku devices is an "International" version of the previously released US-only "The Classic Comedy Network" channel, and (therefore) does not feature alongside the original channel in the Roku USA Channel Store, there is no active link (above) for an 'Roku Guide' review of this international release. However, since both the 'U.S.' and 'International' versions are based upon content that has entered the "public domain" for their respective territories... the main difference between the channels boils down to whether the title has "public domain" status worldwide, or solely for the United States. Needless to say, there will be a certain amount of crossover (content-wise) between the two versions and it's (likely) safe to assume that the look and feel of the channel will be more or less the same regardless of which Roku "region" you're in. Consequently, the original 'Roku Guide' review of "The Classic Comedy Network" can also be said (for the most part) to hold true for "The Classic Comedy Network Int" channel that now has a place under "Comedy" within the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store. In other words, aside from the titles which only have "public domain" in USA, this "International" version is otherwise identical and, in the absence of a review for this (non-US) version, the original (U.S.) review should suffice! ;-) :-)

TPG (THE POLETTI GROUP)....COST: FREE (n.b. may require additional fees) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FILM & TV" in Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while this 'TPG' channel from 'The Poletti Group' is FREE-TO-ADD to your Roku device(s) and (currently) features a library of content that's FREE-TO-STREAM in it's entirety, the description from the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store states that: "TPG is a subscription based streaming channel" and (presumably!?!) that's the main reason why it "...offers a variety movies and shows with no ads" which (itself) is a feature of many other Roku channels that may also be offered as "free-to-stream" (when ad-supported) or on a "paid" (i.e. subscription) basis for ad-free viewing.

However, despite the warning that this 'TPG' channel "May require additional fees" in order to view the content, my own experience - which was matched by the comments from the 'Roku Guide' review (see link above) - indicated no sign of any payment(s) being required to watch the content, or of any commercials being present to interrupt the "free-to-stream" viewing experience which can currently be enjoyed by those who add this channel. That said... as more content is added to the channel, when the company & their affiliates produce their own original programming to further extend the existing collection of vintage public domain TV shows and movies on offer, it is possible that charges may be applicable for this and/or any additional content that is made available in the future. In the meantime, my advice is: enjoy it while it's free to view and free of ads... because it may not always be that way!

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot for this week and, while it barely amounts to more than eighty per cent of the forty-nine channels that made it into the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, it's better to get 40 NEW CHANNELS than none at all... as I'm sure you agree!?! Just ask anyone who owns a NowTV Box, because they actually lost another channel this week! :-O

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the forty "public" channels outlined above... or else from the "private" channels, whose access codes were "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points throughout the past few weeks. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your Roku channel selection from the assortment of channels on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all, there's no point installing every channel because, like I say... when it comes to adding new channels to your Roku, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS!

*********************************************

As mentioned previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV Boxes to follow in the near future. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, a NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned before) for all the new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the one hundred and ninety-three preceding weeks and then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. Hopefully, by the time I make my next post, I will have sorted out another (new) companion Twitter Feed to replace the now suspended: @ukrokuchannels account so there will still be a presence on the social media platform via which up-to-the-minute info on Roku-related matters (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis!

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
