Roku UK Channel Store - Weekly RoundUp #305

Hi, everyone !!

After the record-breaking seven days that I covered in my 'Weekly RoundUp' post from last week, in which there were no less than one hundred and twenty-five new Roku channels (i.e. apps) added to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store,  I'm extremely pleased (not to mention somewhat surprised) to report that we've had YET ANOTHER MAMMOTH CROP OF NEW CHANNEL ADDITIONS to boost the choice in the UK channel store even further with ANOTHER NINETY-TWO NEW ROKU APPS just added to the already vast selection of over five thousand seven hundred populating the channel store as of this time last week. So, much like other recent 'Weekly RoundUp' posts, I must (again) forego my summary of Roku-related news so that I can assemble a complete list of those new apps...

...the idea being that, with no Roku-related news to share, I can (instead) focus on the important task of providing details for all the latest new Roku channels (apps) which were released during the seven days since my last 'Weekly RoundUp' post was published and, with another HUGE SELECTION of 92 new Roku channels, that should (hopefully) be more than enough to keep you occupied while I see what snippets of Roku-related news I can find for you in the coming week! ;-) :-)

BEFORE I BEGIN... PLEASE BE AWARE: That, owing to a malfunction in the 'Schedule' feature for Google's "Blogger" app, despite believing that this post would publish automatically (as with every other 'Weekly RoundUp' post before it) nothing appeared online at my 'UK Roku Channels' blog URL and, because I had no prior reason to even consider that my post might not be published, it only came to my attention one week after the fact - when I logged in, to begin the next 'Weekly RoundUp' article for my blog and happened to notice that the status was still set to 'Draft' and not 'Published' at the scheduled time, as expected. Apologies to anyone who may have visited these pages over the last seven days, and wondered why there was no 'Weekly RoundUp' post on 12th January 2019, but it's here now - better late than never - and you'll have the benefit of another post later today!

Anyway, back to the list... which, as always, will help you to identify the very latest apps that have been added to Roku devices in the UK. Other websites offering Roku channel listings will base their contents on the Roku USA Channel Store, which means they also include apps that are unavailable to UK Roku users. So, like I've said before... if you really want to know what's available channel-wise, for owners of Roku devices in the UK, you need to be reading this blog each and every week! ;-) :-)

With twice the number of active links to check out, not just for this week... but each and every post that has been previously published as part of my 'Weekly RoundUp' series over the last five and a half years, there's a *lot* of reading to catch-up on. So, without further ado, here's my 'Weekly RoundUp' of all new Roku channels released between 6th January 2019 and 12th January 2019:-

If I somehow succeed in bringing this matter to the attention of the developer / content provider, I'd expect to see this app given a permanent "home" under 'Lifestyle' in the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store within a few weeks of so-doing. In the meantime, if you wish to add it, I suggest you take advantage of the built-in Roku 'Search' feature to find and then install it. Using this method, you probably won't even need to finish typing the words "BM THE NETWORK" before seeing the channel listed among the 'Search Results' displayed on the right-hand side of your television screen. You can, of course, also use the above link found below (and to the left of) the channel icon (aka 'HD Poster' image) for the app to install this channel via your online Roku account. Meanwhile… it goes without saying that, if/when the app is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. Using this method, you probably won't even need to finish typing the word "Spectrum" before seeing the channel listed among the 'Search Results' displayed on the right-hand side of your television screen. Failure to assign a permanent channel store category for the UK within the next four weeks (however) would mean that, once it ceases to be part of the 'New' category, it would no longer be listed in the channel store. So, if you think you're likely to want this channel, my advice would be to install it by the end of January (at the latest) because, if the necessary edits are not made to the Roku channel package (.PKG file) by that time, you will not see it in there afterwards. Needless to say, if/when the channel is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. As mentioned above I'd expect this to be the 'Music' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.

SCREEN CAST....COST: FREE (n.b. requires companion app for iOS devices) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "APPS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while this 'Screen Cast' channel for Roku devices is FREE-TO-ADD to your individual selection, anyone interested in using it in conjunction with their 'iDevices' should know that A SEPARATE COMPANION APP FOR iOS (APPLE) MOBILE DEVICES WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED in order for any content to be "cast" or "mirrored" on a Roku-connected television screen from either a compatible iPhone or an iPad. According to the channel description, the mobile app that is needed for this 'Screen Cast' channel to function is called "Screen Cast for Roku" but unfortunately, at the time of writing, there was no such app listed in the 'App Store' which means, as things stand, the Roku app is incapable of performing the function for which it was created. Hopefully this will only be a temporary inconvenience and the 'Screen Cast for Roku' app for iOS (Apple) mobile devices will be available in the 'App Store' sometime soon. Needless to say, if/when I am made aware of it's presence, I will then add a direct link to this post so that Roku users (in all regions) can easily find and install it! ;-) :-D

Needless to say, if/when the channel is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. As mentioned above I'd expect this to be the 'International' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.

WINTER WONDERLAND.......................................................COST: FREE [Roku Guide Review]

PLEASE NOTE:- That, while this 'Winter Wonderland' channel for Roku devices can be found within the 'New' category (i.e. genre) of the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store, no permanent category / genre had (at the time of writing) been assigned to this channel in the UK. In the meantime, if you don't wish to trawl through the 'New' category of the channel store to find it, I suggest you take advantage of the built-in Roku 'Search' feature to locate and install it. Using this method, you probably won't even need to finish typing the words "Winter Wonderland" before seeing the channel listed among the 'Search Results' displayed on the right-hand side of your television screen. As mentioned above I'd expect this to be the 'Themes' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.

UPDATE:- There seems to have been some problem with the Roku Web Channel Store listings, in so much as the channel store categories (i.e. genres) are not being displayed within the descriptions for this and many other Roku channels (i.e. apps) because I have since noticed the 'Winter Wonderland' theme is listed (as you would expect) under the 'Themes' category within the built-in channel store on each of my Roku devices. However, when following the link below (and to the left of) the above channel icon (i.e. 'HD Poster' image) for this 'Winter Wonderland' theme, there is no mention of any category being associated with this channel. Furthermore whereas, when viewing a description for (almost) all other Roku channels in the 'Themes' category via the Roku Web Channel Store, you would be returned to the main listing for that category (with all the other themes on display)... instead, the "Return to all channels" button shows the resultant category as "Undefined" along with a message to the effect that the search produced no results. This type of error has been more frequent since the release of Roku OS 9.0 and may (or may not) be more commonly linked to channels developed through the 'Roku Direct Publisher' program. However whether this is the fault of the developer(s) not providing the necessary information, or some sort of glitch within the Roku Web Channel Store, is difficult to say. Whatever the reason, let's hope they fix it sooner rather than later... since if not, the longer it goes on, the worse the impact on all Roku users! :-(

Needless to say, if/when the channel is edited to include a permanent channel store category for the UK, I'll update this listing with details of whatever genre has been assigned to it. As mentioned above I'd expect this to be the 'Fitness' genre, but it could (possibly) wind-up in another category.

XTRAINFIT......................COST: FREE (n.b. may require additional fees) [Roku Guide Review]

***FILED UNDER: "FITNESS" in the Roku UK Channel Store WHEN FIRST RELEASED***

*********************************************

Anyhow, like it or not, that is your lot this week and, while I don't yet have an exact figure for the new apps which were added to the "Official" Roku USA Channel Store in the same time-frame, at least you have 92 NEW CHANNELS to keep you occupied while I check the numbers! ;-) :-) Meanwhile, for those still clinging-on to their NowTV device(s) for whatever reason, I'm afraid to say that, much like most weeks, there were zero new Roku channels (apps) added to the 'App Store' on NOW TV products... meaning the total number of available apps remains at just forty-five! :-(

Moreover, with no 'TVPlayer' or 'Prime Video' app(s) among the selection of channels found in the NOW TV 'App Store' (to name but two) - despite there being dedicated channels for both of them on UK Roku devices - the range of NowTV-branded products continues to fall short of the mark in terms of current streaming needs for many in the UK. So, the best way to increase your choice of streaming services, is to swap any NowTV-branded products you own for genuine Roku-branded media players which can provide access to 5,800+ apps of content from a vast assortment of providers! ;-) :-D

In any event, hopefully everyone in the UK with a Roku player managed to find something they like within the ninety-two "public" channels outlined above... or else the "private" channels "gifted" to you via the companion Twitter Feed: @ukrokuchannels to this blog, at various points over the past five and a half years. However, if you didn't find anything to add to your Roku channel selection from the assortment of apps on offer this week, you can always pay us a visit another time when, with any luck, there will be something more to your liking. After all, there's no point installing every app because, like I say... when it comes to adding new channels to Roku devices, IT'S YOUR CHOICE and, as with all things Roku... THE CHOICE IS ALWAYS YOURS!

*********************************************

As touched upon previously, you can expect my usual summary of all the goings-on (or not) in the (severely restricted) Roku Channel Store (aka "App Store") that features on NowTV devices to carry on in future posts. Meanwhile, whether you happen to own a Roku player, NowTV Box, OR BOTH, as I do... be sure to check my earlier posts (as mentioned before) for all the new additions to the "Official" Roku UK Channel Store in each of the two hundred and thirty-one preceding weeks, then come back again in seven days' time for my next 'Weekly RoundUp'. Hopefully, by the time I make my next post, I may even have sorted out another (new) companion Twitter Feed to replace the now suspended: @ukrokuchannels account so there'll still be a presence on the social media platform via which up-to-the-minute info on Roku-related matters (here in the UK) is posted on a daily basis!

Until the next time, then...

That's all folks !!
